On March 20th, as the Young Women in Leadership (YWiL) House and Senate participants came together for their joint closing ceremony, L. Nana Oye Hesse Bayne, President of the CIWiL Regional Board of Directors, delivered a powerful reflection following the debate on the Motion Approving the Development of Temporary Special Measures to Accelerate Young Women’s Leadership in Public, Political and Economic Spheres. Guided by Senator Janelle Chanona as closing ceremony moderator, the room felt both historic and hopeful.
In her remarks, Nana reminded participants that their work does not end with the mock sitting. “Now the time has come for you to go out there and make sure this was not just a mock debate but it becomes a reality,” she urged, calling on them to carry their insights and conviction into the real world.
She also highlighted what she called the program’s greatest achievement: “the sisterhood and bonds that you’ve made.” With this cohort joining YWiL alumnae from Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Lucia, Jamaica, Grenada, and Trinidad and Tobago, she emphasized that participants now belong to a regional network of young women leaders “that you can hold hands with and charge your way forward.”
