A Journey through History and Culture: A Reflection on Our Visit to NALIS
On 27th May 2026, the students of Guayaguayare Secondary School embarked on an enriching and memorable educational field trip to the NALIS Adult Library in Port of Spain. Under the guidance of our dedicated teachers, Miss Pacheco-Carrera and Miss Quamina-Miguel, we had the privilege of exploring the curated exhibition, "Guyana @ 60: From Independence to Transformation."

The exhibition beautifully highlighted the deep-rooted connections between Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana. This experience was far from a typical classroom lesson. The students had the chance to pull up a seat, open large-format records, read directly about global and regional histories, and explore vibrant regional community culture displays, including the "Tash-Tasha-Tassa" exhibits. They also explored historical milestones tracing Guyana's journey from a colony to an independent nation on May 26, 1966.

The learning didn't stop at the library. On our way back, we stopped off at Trincity Mall, where our students were once again enlightened and educated on Indian Arrival heritage.
The mall featured an engaging exhibition space where students participated in a heritage trivia game, testing their knowledge by spinning a "Brain Storm" question wheel; our students confidently answered questions and walked away with fantastic prizes!

Heartfelt gratitude is extended to the students who willingly participated and brought the celebration to life. Also to Mrs. Vanessa Hinkson for sewing the dance skirts and to Ms. Stephanie Fairley and her family for providing the refreshments. Additionally, special thanks go to Miss Pacheco and Miss Dhanassar for dedicating their time to preparing traditional sweets and to specially invited guest Mr. Neil Ramlal, who once again graced the audience with his wonderful bhajan renditions. The celebration featured a rich array of cultural performances, showcases, and artistic displays.
