IKER Institute

IKER Institute The Institute of Indigenous Knowledge, Empowerment and Research is a registered NGO

We manage the APITO Nature Park, which includes a community-based ecological farm, as part of our mission to demonstrate an alternative and decolonial model of development. At this site, persons come to learn and practice regenerative agriculture techniques, dialogue social issues, map the flora and fauna, and use the space as part of their therapeutic process. What makes the IKER Institute uniqu

e is that we not only emphasize regenerative agriculture and environmentally minded choices, but we use this as a starting point to encourage dialogue around history, inequalities, social justice and other social issues. IKER Institute is committed to the development of the Blue Basin area through its support of the work of the Beausejour Village Council, as well as our ongoing initiatives at the APITO Nature Park. We have engaged the community with motivational talks, spearheaded interventions for vulnerable children, supported the development of a community reading room for children, and advised and participated in other activities with the Village Council.
