The President’s Award – Trinidad and Tobago is a non-profit, voluntary organization dedicated to training young persons between the ages of 14 to 25 years in Skills, Physical Recreation, Service and Expedition/Exploration. Training is divided into three levels and on successful completion of each level participants are presented with Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards respectively. The President’s Awa

rd - Trinidad and Tobago (TPATT) is affiliated to the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award International Association and the Caribbean Award Sub-Regional Council CASC. The award started as a pilot award for boys in 1956, by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. After the Second world war there was a growing concern about the development of boys, due to the gap between leaving school at 15 and entering National Service at 18. It was designed to attract boys who had not been interested in joining one of the main British youth movements, such as The Scout Association. It was not necessary to join any organisation, or wear a uniform in order to participate. In November 1957 it was announced that females may be invited to participate. On Thursday 19 June 1958 The Duke of Edinburgh's Award was extended to females, with the first females allowed to join from 1 September 1958. In 1964 Colonel Peyton Jones and Colonel Henry from the Trinidad and Tobago Cadet Force brought the award to Trinidad and Tobago. The Award is active in more than 160 Countries around the world. In each country the award is named after the Head of State of the country. In Trinidad and Tobago, its called The President’s Award - Trinidad and Tobago (TPATT). Each year participants from the Caribbean come together under the Caribbean Award Sub-Regional Council (CASC) in one of the participating countries to undertake the Silver and Gold qualifying Expedition/Exploration, Adventurous Journey, Residential Project and/or Leadership Training Course.
