🕊️ Tribute to a Community Pillar: Remembering Mr. Chunilal Bedassie 🕊️

"A life of service leaves footprints that time cannot erase."

The Executive Directorate and members of the Cunupia Business Chamber (CUBC) acknowledge with profound sadness the passing of a true community champion, Mr. Chunilal Bedassie.

Mr. Bedassie was a retired Police Inspector (Regimental No. 8422) whose name is forever woven into the fabric of national security and community safety in the Cunupia district and across Trinidad and Tobago. As the principal architect and "Father" of the Police Station Community Council model, his visionary approach transformed law enforcement by building genuine, transparent partnerships between the police and the citizens they serve.

Beyond his distinguished 1971–pioneered career in the Police Service, he was a man of legendary integrity, humility, and unwavering work ethic. Having risen from humble circumstances, he dedicated his entire life to the philosophy that his true religion was simply "interfacing with people"—treating everyone with dignity, respect, and deep human connection. His commitment to our regional security structures and neighborhood welfare leaves an irreplaceable void.

HISTORIC MILESTONE | WELCOMING THE NOMINATION OF JENNIFER JOHNSON-CARROLL

The Cunupia Business Chamber (CUBC) warmly celebrates and welcomes the historic nomination of Jennifer Johnson-Carroll by the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, to serve as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

Originally a native of Arouca, Mrs. Johnson-Carroll’s nomination marks a monumental milestone. Upon Senate confirmation, she will make history as the very first Trinidad and Tobago-born woman to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to our twin-island republic.

An accomplished public servant, U.S. Navy Veteran, and former 18th Lieutenant Governor of Florida, she has consistently used her platform to champion economic development and strengthen international trade links. Her deep, enduring ties to her birthplace—including her leadership on prior successful trade missions to T&T—make her uniquely positioned to drive mutual prosperity.

The United States remains our primary strategic partner in trade, investment, energy, and regional security. As a voice for our local business community, CUBC looks forward to the completion of her confirmation process and to working closely with her office to foster innovation, strengthen MSME networks, and unlock new economic growth between our nations. Join us in congratulating a remarkable daughter of our soil on this historic assignment!

Standing Together: Advocating for our SMEs Against Rising Bank Fees.

The Cunupia Business Chamber (CUBC) is taking a firm stand for our regional business community. As bank fees are set to rise on May 1st, we are issuing a powerful call for leadership and accountability within the financial sector.

While major institutions report record profits, our local storefronts are battling rising operational costs and commercial stagnation. President Ryan De Castro notes that increasing the cost of basic financial tools during a liquidity gap "benefits the few at the expense of the many".

The Storefront Reality vs. Record Profits:
* Commercial cheque books are spiking from $43 to $76, and NSF fees are climbing from $34.50 to $57.50.
* Republic Financial Holdings reported a profit of US$329 million for 2025.
* We are demanding a 12-month moratorium on fee increases for registered SMEs to allow for actual commercial recovery.

Strength Through Unity: "Be Your Brother's Keeper". Survival in 2026 requires an organized front. The CUBC is a strictly non-partisan, apolitical body dedicated to ensuring that the small businesses of Cunupia are not left behind. We invite banking leadership to meet us at the table, not at the teller, to find a path that supports inclusive growth.

Join the CUBC Today!

Don't face these challenges as a single voice. Join our collective strength and ensure your business has a seat at the table where decisions are made.
