TTARP an Association of Responsible Persons

TTARP is a legally registered, non-profit organisation for mature citizens age 50 and over. Locally, a group of prominent senior citizens headed by Messrs.

Peter Peña, Ken Gittens (deceased) and J. Maurice Quesnel(deceased), representing a cross–section of society, looked into a version of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP)and evaluated the advantages of implementation in Trinidad and Tobago. When all the data were assembled, the possibilities looked attractive and feasible and so with the assistance of M&M Insurance Services, TTARP w

as formed in August 1993. Subsequent announcements and advertisements gained national attention and resulted in many members being enrolled. To date, we have almost 35,000 ¬ financial members. Indeed the benefits of membership have served mature citizens well.

This Labour Day, we honour the workers whose dedication, sacrifice, and perseverance helped shape Trinidad & Tobago into the nation it is today.

We also remember the significance of the 1937 labour movement and the legacy of Uriah "Buzz" Butler, whose efforts helped advance workers' rights across the country.

Today, we recognise World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, a reminder that every older person deserves to feel safe, valued, respected, and heard. 💜

Elder abuse can take many forms, including physical harm, emotional mistreatment, neglect, financial exploitation, or being isolated from loved ones and support. Sometimes the signs are easy to miss, but speaking up can make a life-changing difference.

At TTARP, we continue to stand for the rights, dignity, and well-being of older persons through advocacy, education, and the work of our National Issues Committee. Together, we can help build a Trinidad & Tobago where ageing is met with respect, care, and protection.

Today, we recognise World Blood Donor Day — a day to thank voluntary blood donors and raise awareness about the importance of safe blood donation.

🩸💛 Blood donations help support patients during surgeries, emergencies, childbirth, cancer treatment, and other serious medical needs. One generous act can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life. In Trinidad & Tobago, persons who are generally in good health, meet the required screening guidelines, and weigh at least 110 lbs may be eligible to donate.

The Ministry of Health notes that donor eligibility is confirmed through screening at the Blood Bank. Even if you cannot donate, you can still support by encouraging family members, friends, and community groups to learn more.

Together, we can help strengthen our healthcare system and promote a caring, healthier Trinidad & Tobago.
