Today, on the Day of the Seafarer, MTCC Caribbean joins the global maritime community in recognizing the invaluable contribution of seafarers under this year's theme, "Carrying World Trade, Carrying the Risks."

Every day, seafarers play a vital part in supporting global commerce through their roles in the transport of goods, energy, food, and essential supplies that support economies and communities across the world. For Small Island Developing States such as those in the Caribbean, their work is especially critical in maintaining connectivity, trade, and economic resilience.

Yet, behind the movement of world trade are men and women who often operate under challenging conditions, facing safety, security, and wellbeing risks while spending extended periods away from their families and loved ones.

At MTCC Caribbean, we recognize that the future of sustainable shipping depends not only on technological innovation and decarbonisation, but also on the people who keep the maritime industry moving. As we work to support the transition toward greener and more resilient maritime transport, we remain mindful that seafarers are at the heart of this transformation.

Today, we thank seafarers across the Caribbean and around the world for their dedication, professionalism, and service. Your commitment keeps world trade moving, often in the face of significant challenges and risks.

At MTCC Caribbean, we remain committed to investing in the future of the maritime industry by empowering the next generation of young women through exposure, engagement, and opportunity.

As part of our Gender Action activities under the EU-funded IMO-implemented, Global Maritime Network (GMN) Phase II Project, MTCC Caribbean in collaboration with The University of Trinidad and Tobago’s Centre for Maritime and Ocean Studies, hosted and participated in a series of impactful school outreach initiatives over the past month.

We were pleased to welcome over 200 students from St. Charles High School, ASJA Girls’ College, and Rosewood-Trimont College for immersive campus tours, providing firsthand exposure to maritime education, career pathways, simulator-based learning and the growing importance of sustainability and innovation in the sector.

Additionally, MTCC Caribbean engaged with students at Parvati Girls’ Hindu College during their Career Day, sharing insights on maritime career opportunities, the importance of climate action, and the evolving role of women in shaping a more sustainable, inclusive and equitable maritime industry.

These engagements reflect MTCC Caribbean’s continued commitment to promoting gender inclusivity, increasing youth awareness, and strengthening the visibility of women in maritime, particularly within the context of decarbonisation, energy efficiency, and maritime innovation.
