WeCare Deaf Support Network

WeCare Deaf Support Network We are the first Parent-Centered organization dedicated to empowering and educating parents of deaf and hard of hearing children, as well as deaf parents.

WeCare Deaf Support Network was officially registered as a Non Profit Organization on September 5 2013. We are the first parent- centered organization dedicated to empowering and educating parents of deaf and hard of hearing children, as well as deaf parents by providing parents access to resources, skills, information, support services, literacy and cultural awareness as a critical component of our

advocacy goals. Our goal as a Deaf - Centered organization is to assist in removing social barriers, and improving the quality of life for all deaf parents, and parents of deaf and hard of hearing children from diagnosis and throughout all stages of life. We strive to ally with the deaf and hard of hearing community as a whole to raise up their social presence in the world at large.

I am happy to share that our abstract, “Advocacy Through Parent-Led Action: WeCare Deaf Support Network,” has been accepted for a stage presentation at the Caribbean Deaf Education Conference in July 2026.

This presentation will be delivered by Mary A Bastien and me. We bring lived experience to this work as parents and advocates of children with disabilities.

As a parent of a deaf child, I see every day how communication barriers exclude Deaf persons from critical spaces—yet their voices must be heard.

Through WeCare Deaf Support Network, we continue to promote advocacy in action by building practical, community-driven solutions that places Deaf voices at the centre.

I look forward to contributing to this important regional conversation.

It's World Hearing Day.

Today is World Hearing Day. A reminder that protecting our hearing starts with regular screening as early testing helps identify concerns and ensures the right support and interventions are in place.

Untreated hearing loss in children can delay speech and language development, impact learning and social skills, and affect future opportunities. In adults, it can reduce quality of life and workplace participation, cause social isolation and reduce mental and physical health.

Let’s promote routine hearing screenings in schools and communities, make hearing health part of everyday wellness conversations, and equip families and educators with the right information.

Early detection protects hearing, supports timely intervention, and helps every child and adult thrive.

Happy International Day For Persons with Disabilities!

Today, WeCare Deaf Support Network stands in solidarity with persons with disabilities everywhere.

This is not just a day of recognition; it is a reminder of the work we must continue to do and that Inclusion is not a favour or optional. Inclusion is a Right

Let’s lift the voices that have been ignored, challenge the systems that create barriers, and push for real access in schools, workplaces, public spaces, and communities.

Access changes lives.
Support builds confidence.
Understanding breaks down barriers.

Today, commit to one action. Learn something. Challenge something or Change something.

Because a society is only truly strong when everyone, signed or spoken, can participate fully and equitably.
