The North Zone Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association was founded in 1954. At that time some senior members of Queens Park Cricket Club, the body running cricket in Trinidad and Tobago at that time decided they should form an umpiring body to control the proper running of Umpiring in Trinidad and Tobago. mbers amongst them were, Lance Murray, who became the first President, Mr. Simeon “S.B” Hoyte, to name a few, all members of Queen’s Park Cricket Club. Sometime during the later years, the Trinidad Umpires Council were divided into two groups by geographic location, Northern Umpires Association and Southern Umpires Association. As there were an increase in Clubs participating in the game of cricket further Constitutional changes were made and the birth of the Zonal Associations came into being - North Zone, South Zone, East Zone and West Zone with Tobago being an affiliate Zone. The Constitution of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board of Control, as it was then called, did not recognise Tobago as a Zone so they too carried Affiliated Status to the Trinidad Umpires Council. In 1966, the North Zone became an Affiliate member of the Association of Cricket Umpires and Scorers, the Body responsible for all umpiring matters in all cricket playing countries under the control of the International Cricket council (ICC)
North Zone Cricket Umpires Association went through several name changes from North Umpires to North Zone Cricket Umpires Association, North and Districts Cricket Umpires Association then back again to North Zone Cricket Umpires Association. In 2006 ‘Scorers’ was added to the Organization’s name. Our last name change occurred in 2015 when the organization was officially registered as an NPO of Trinidad Tobago. Our present name North Zone Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association of Trinidad and Tobago (NZCUSATT) was derived from this landmark event in our organisation’s history.
