Earlier this week, Ms Jewel Green-George, host of Tobago Updates, sat down with BIGWU President, Cde. Debbie-Ann Ottley, and General Secretary, Cde. Mandy Clarke-Whitley.

During the interview, our President and General Secretary discussed their leadership of the Union, their vision for BIGWU and their commitment to representing and advancing the interests of workers, especially for the Union’s members and branches in Tobago.

BIGWU MEMBERS — COME OUT AND LET OUR VOICES BE HEARD! ✊🏾

We are making an open call on our members to come out in your numbers and stand together with the wider Trade Union Movement at the upcoming Labour Movement March & Rally.

📍 Memorial Park, Port of Spain
🕘 Assembly from 9:00 a.m.

Workers continue to face serious challenges including the rising cost of living, job insecurity, delayed collective agreements, inadequate pensions and the need for greater respect and recognition of labour.

This march is an opportunity for workers to stand together and make our collective voice heard.

We march for:
- Outstanding Collective Agreements to be signed off
- Fair wages in the face of the rising cost of living
- Job security and stable employment
- Decent pensions and protection for working families
- Fair recognition and respect for labour
- Social and economic justice

Calling all BIGWU members — come out in your numbers!

Wear your union colours, bring your energy and let us stand together in solidarity.

Today, October 1, 2026, marks the official start of the 2026 - 2030 term of office of BIGWU's newly elected Central Executive Officers.

Our new executive team is led by Cde. Debbie-Ann Ottley, BIGWU's first female President, and she is joined by a full complement of officers:

Cde. Jaunvon Roach - Deputy President;
Cde. Tarshish George - First Vice President;
Cde. Keream Roberts - Second Vice President;
Cde. Mandy Clarke-Whitley - General Secretary;
Cde. John Mark Lee Wah - Deputy General Secretary; and
Cde. Vivian Joseph - Assistant General Secretary.

This new term represents an important milestone in the life of the Union and, over the next four years, these officers will carry the responsibility of strengthening the Union, defending and advancing the interests of our membership, and preparing BIGWU to respond effectively to tomorrow's challenges.

BIGWU extends best wishes to the newly elected officers as they undertake this important responsibility and calls upon the membership to remain united, engaged and committed to the continued growth and development of the Union.

Together, we move forward in unity, solidarity and in the service of the working class.

BIGWU President-elect, Cde. Debbie-Ann Ottley, speaks with reporters from CNC3 just days after her team’s success at the polls.

Cde. Ottley is set to become the first female President of BIGWU, succeeding outgoing President, Cde. Don Devenish. In doing so, she joins a distinguished group of women currently serving in leadership positions across the trade union movement, including Cde. Felisha Thomas (PSA), Cde. Nwannia Sorzano (ACAWU), Cde. Ermine De Bique-Meade (CAGWTU), and Cde. Joanne O’geer (Communication Workers Union).

During this short interview, Cde. Ottley shared her perspective on the ongoing issue surrounding the proposed 10% wage increase as well as highlighted several areas of particular importance to her which are expected to form part of her agenda as she prepares to serve the Union during the 2026–2030 term.

BIGWU Central Executive Committee 2026–2030

The Banking, Insurance and General Workers Union congratulates the newly elected National Officers who will serve on the Union’s Central Executive Committee for the term 2026–2030.

We extend best wishes to the incoming leadership as they undertake the responsibility of guiding the Union’s work in representation, organisation, education, mobilisation and service to the membership.

As we move into this new term, BIGWU remains committed to advancing the interests of workers and strengthening the collective voice of our members.
