NO MAJOR WIDESPREAD RAINFALL BUT SOME AREAS LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE SHOWERS

Trailing convergence associated with a strong Tropical Wave that is located near Puerto Rico is forecast to affect T&T and the Windwards overnight but mainly after midnight and Monday.

There are no indications that widespread rainfall is expected but some areas can experience heavy downpours and thunderstorm activity.

Due to this, gusty winds, street and flash flooding is likely in heavy showers or thunderstorms!

HEAVY RAINS CONTINUE OVER THE NORTHERN ISLANDS; SOME SHOWERS LIKELY FOR T&T ON MONDAY

The remnants of Tropical Storm Dolly is a Vigorous Tropical Wave centered near Puerto Rico tonight.

The system continues to produce a large area of showers and thunderstorms over the Northern Leewards, U.S / British Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

While a close surface circulation is not forming at this time, environmental conditions could become more favorable for redevelopment when the system moves into the Gulf during the middle of this upcoming week.

Regardless of this, locally heavy rains, strong gusty winds are forecast to continue over the Greater Antilles, Puerto Rico and parts of the Northern Leewards over the next couple of days.

For T&T, some convergence trailing the axis of this Wave is expected tomorrow, Monday 31st August 2026 to produce a few scattered showers near and just after midnight and then during the late morning to early afternoon.

Gusty winds, street and flash flooding may occur in heavy showers or thunderstorms!

August 27th, 2011:

Hurricane Irene made landfall near Cape Lookout, NC. The storm was the first hurricane to strike the US since Ike in 2008. Up to 14-15" of rain fell in NC, where over 1,000 homes were damaged/destroyed. In total, Irene would kill 40 people between Puerto Rico & the mainland US.

TROPICAL STORM DOLLY FORMS : INTERESTS IN THE LEEWARD ISLANDS SHOULD MONITOR THE SYSTEM

A tropical wave in the eastern Atlantic has strengthened into Tropical Storm Dolly.

Dolly is currently moving westward at 24 mph with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph and a minimum central pressure of 1007 mb.

The system is expected to continue moving west over the next couple of days and could approach the Leeward Islands this weekend. Little change in strength is forecast during the next 48 hours, with Dolly expected to degenerate into a tropical wave before reaching the Leeward Islands.

Heavy rainfall could begin affecting the Leeward Islands late Saturday into Sunday, with the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Hispaniola potentially seeing heavy rain Sunday into Monday. Flash flooding could occur, especially in areas of higher terrain.

There are currently no coastal watches or warnings in effect.

Interests across the Leeward Islands should continue to closely monitor the progress of Dolly.
