Nepuyo Toastmasters Club was founded in 2008 at the Arima Town Hall by former Mayor of Arima, Mr Adrian Cabralis. He served as the club’s first President. The club takes its name from the sub-tribe of the Carinepogoto (Caribs) people. Of even greater significance, Hyarima, the War Chief, belonged to the Nepuyo tribe. The Santa Rosa Carib community of Arima, quite rightfully, considered Hyarima to
be the greatest known legendary personage, as well as first national hero of Trinidad and Tobago. Hyarima convinced and led other tribes in Trinidad and Tobago to resist Spanish colonization. Therefore, in homage to him and his great skill in military communications and leadership, it was suggested by a primary school vice principal that the proposed Toastmasters Club be the namesake of the people for whom he fought. We invite you to join Nepuyo Toastmasters Club and develop two of the most crucial skills for long-term success, Public Speaking and Leadership. Membership in Toastmasters is one of the greatest investments you can make in yourself.
