Turunç Cats Protection and Rescue Housing Association is a not-for-profit, legally registered Turkish charity. We aim to protect, rescue, feed, neuter & provide medical care to sick & injured cats & kittens in Turunç, Amos and Kumbulük. On the 8th September 2014 TCPRHA became the new name for Turunç Cats Welfare, when we became a Turkish Registered Charity. Our Official Turkish name i

We are managed by a committee made up of volunteers who along with other dedicated volunteers, protect, rescue and look after the welfare the cats in our village in Turunç in Turkey. We operate trap-neuter-return program (TNR) which is the most humane and effective method for improving the lives of street cats whilst also controlling the street cat population. The cats are humanely trapped, taken to a veterinary for spaying or neutering, medically treated; and in most cases they are returned to the outdoor locations where they were found, unless the location is unsafe or inappropriate. The cats are released where volunteers provide them with adequate food, water and they can monitor them for any signs of illness and injuries. We also have twenty feeding and monitoring stations set up and are currently feeding 194 cats in Turunç. Our feeding stations enables us to monitor the health of the cats. Any cats or kittens who are unwell or have suffered a trauma are provided with veterinary care and are looked after at our rehabilitation shelter until they are healthy enough to be released. We also have a quarantine room where we treat sick cats and kittens, without infecting the cats in the main Rehabilitation Shelter. All new cats spend two weeks in quarantine to ensure they do not have any infectious diseases that they could be passed onto the other cats. How we Fund our Work
Kind Donations made through a number of methods detailed in the ‘how you can help’ section on our website, a cat sponsorship program. The Committee also organises regular fundraising events. All funds raised go directly to caring for the cats. Board of Directors

Good news
Jobey and I collected Kısmet, one of the cats who was shot, from Happypets this afternoon. Mehmet said Kismet is very friendly. Mehmet gave us neurological tablets and professional food which is high in protein for Kismet.
Nikki and Paul have kindly offered to foster Kismet on a temporary basis to see how he gets on with their own cat. Nikki and Paul have experience, as they fostered Sid, a dog that was paralysed due to being hit by a car two years ago. Nikki and Paul did an excellent job and within a short period Sid was walking. Nikki will do basic physiotherapy with Kismet, three times a day, hopefully Kismet will be able to walk again.
Thank you Mehmet and Abdullah for saving Kismet’s life.

Update on the cats who were shot.

The Jandarma commander said they are taking the shootings very seriously and are actively investigating.
They have been walking around and speaking to people.
If you have seen anything suspicious please go and speak to the commander.

Harry update
İ am so happy to tell you that Harry is doing really well. Mehmet gave Harry a long acting antibiotic, so Karen and Martin could take him home this afternoon.
Mehmet only removed two of the fragments of the bullets because of the risk of tissue damage by removing the other fragments. Hopefully they won't cause any problems in the long term.
Harry is now at home getting lots of love and cuddles tonight. Karen and Martin are very grateful for all your well wishes for Harry.

Help needed for Kismet

We are collecting Kismet tomorrow.
Kismet is one of the poor innocent cats that was shot in the spin. Kismet can now go to the toilet on her own but she still cannot walk yet. Mehmet is hoping that in time she will walk as she has been getting better day by day.
Sadly we do not have the facilities for a disabled kitty. Which means poor Kismet will be confined to a cage, as we are only there for a while to clean and feed in the mornings. Also there are other cats walking around in the cabin.
Kismet really needs a short term foster home until she becomes mobile. Someone that has time and can do some basic physiotherapy with her. Please contact me if you are able to help Kismet.

Yesterday afternoon Ezgi sent me a message, she said Charlie who hangs around Frankies bar, had a lumps on him. Jobey and I went to see Charlie. He had a lump on the back of his head and one on his back. They looked like they could be tumors. We put Charlie in a cat carrier and put him in the cabin for the night. Thank you Eski.
Jobey and I took Charlie to Happypets this morning. Abdullah and Mehmet checked them. Mehmet said they are skin tumors and it would be better to remove them.
Mehmet will remove the tumors tomorrow and send them to be analysed. Hopefully the tumors are benign.
