Time to Say Goodbye… 💙
As part of the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) program supported by the European Commission, we have completed the volunteer program for our “You FuTuRe – Protect Your Future with Disaster Awareness” project, implemented by the Sorgun Youth Association (SORGED), and bid farewell to our volunteers as they returned to their home countries.
This journey we shared together was not merely a volunteer activity; it was a story of learning, sharing, solidarity, and creating change together.
While our volunteers gained new knowledge and skills regarding disaster preparedness and social awareness, they shared what they learned with children, youth, and the local community in Sorgun. By reaching hundreds of people in schools, on the streets, during training sessions, and at various events, they worked to build a more aware and resilient community in the face of disasters.
They came from different countries, spoke different languages, and brought their diverse cultures with them… Yet here, they became a team united by a common purpose. Together, we learned, created, laughed, explored, and made unforgettable memories.
Even though our paths now lead to different countries, the friendships formed here, the experiences gained, and the impact left in Sorgun know no borders.
We sincerely thank each and every volunteer for their hard work, sense of responsibility, energy, and the value they brought to Sorgun. đź’™
The suitcases were packed, the journeys began…
But You FuTuRe’s story doesn’t end here.
Because sometimes a project comes to an end;
but the friendships, awareness, and change it leaves behind live on.
Goodbye is not the end. It is the beginning of a new journey. đź’™

Through our “You FuTuRe” project, carried out under the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) program, we brought disaster awareness to schools!
Our international volunteers met with children and young people in schools to conduct fun and interactive activities on disaster preparedness, appropriate behavior during disasters, emergency awareness, and social solidarity.
Through games, hands-on activities, Q&A sessions, and group activities, students not only learned but also discovered the importance of being prepared for disasters.
We believe that helping children and young people develop disaster awareness at an early age is a crucial step toward building more resilient and informed communities.
Disaster preparedness is not an option—it’s a shared responsibility. 💚

As part of the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) program supported by the European Commission, volunteers from our You FuTuRe project—led by the Sorgun Youth Association (SORGED)—took to the streets of Sorgun to raise public awareness about disasters!
Our volunteers, who come from different countries, shared the knowledge and experience they gained during training sessions conducted in collaboration with AFAD with the people of Sorgun.
During the awareness-raising activities held on the streets, they engaged in one-on-one conversations with citizens to discuss:
🔸How prepared we are for disasters as individuals and as families,
🔸The importance of preparing a disaster and emergency kit,
🔸Family disaster plans and emergency assembly points,
🔸Common misconceptions about disasters,
🔸The relationship between climate change and disaster risks,
🔸Our community’s level of knowledge and awareness regarding disasters.
Through surveys, Q&A sessions, and interactive awareness activities, our volunteers listened to the thoughts of the people of Sorgun regarding disasters, while also highlighting how simple precautions taken before a disaster can save lives.
With You FuTuRe, our goal is not just to talk about disasters; it’s to take action together to build a more informed, prepared, and resilient community!
Because disaster preparedness begins not during a disaster, but before it happens. đź’™

As part of the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) program supported by the European Commission, volunteers from our You FuTuRe project—implemented by the Sorgun Youth Association (SORGED)—carried out a cleanup effort at Mükremin Reservoir and its surroundings.
Climate change is increasing the frequency and severity of extreme temperatures, droughts, wildfires, floods, and other extreme weather events, thereby heightening the risk of disasters. At the same time, environmental pollution and waste dumped into nature are reducing the resilience of ecosystems.
Through their cleanup efforts, our volunteers not only collected waste left in nature but also raised awareness about climate change, environmental protection, and the importance of building communities resilient to disasters. After all, reducing disaster risks begins with protecting nature.
Protect nature, take action for the climate, and leave a legacy of solidarity for the future! đź’š

As part of the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) program supported by the European Commission, our volunteers are continuing their hands-on training on disaster preparedness through our You FuTuRe project, implemented by the Sorgun Youth Association (SORGED).
📍 In the training sessions conducted by the Yozgat Provincial Directorate of AFAD, our volunteers are gaining theoretical knowledge on:
⛺ Setting up tents during disasters and emergencies,
🔥 Responding to fires correctly and safely,
🧯 Using firefighting equipment
gained theoretical knowledge and participated in hands-on exercises on these topics.
Through these trainings, we aim to increase our volunteers’ awareness and preparedness for disasters while also developing their ability to act correctly and safely in emergency situations.
We are learning, putting what we learn into practice, and growing stronger together to build communities that are more aware, prepared, and resilient in the face of disasters.
We would like to thank the Yozgat AFAD Provincial Directorate for their training and support.👏

As part of the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) program supported by the European Commission, our volunteers are continuing their hands-on training in disaster preparedness through our You FuTuRe project, implemented by the Sorgun Youth Association (SORGED).
📍 As part of the field search-and-rescue training conducted by the Yozgat Provincial Directorate of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), our volunteers gained hands-on experience in searching for missing persons in the field, working as a team, using proper search methods, and coordinating during disasters and emergencies.
Later in the program, the volunteers visited the Service Dog Training Coordination Office at Yozgat Bozok University. Coordinator Dr. Mehmet İnan, Assistant Professor, provided comprehensive information on the training processes of service dogs, their roles in search-and-rescue operations, and, in particular, their tasks in locating survivors under rubble following an earthquake.
Through a hands-on search-and-rescue simulation, our volunteers had the opportunity to closely observe how service dogs work in coordination with teams in disaster zones and how they assist in locating missing persons.
