📱 We keep hearing that parents should control their children’s social media use.
🧠 But how is that realistic when these platforms are designed to be addictive?
⚖️ This isn’t fair on parents.
📚 At Papaya, we dedicate time and energy to educating both parents and children—but it’s still not enough.

Should We Raise the Age of Digital Consent?
A Resounding Yes — From Dr S. Davies
📱 1. 13 is an outdated privacy law.
⚠️ 2. Children are losing on average 2–3 hours a day on social media.
💭 3. The content they see can make them less happy with their own lives.
🔞 4. Much of the content is adult in nature, exposing them to risks like sextortion and grooming.
🧠 5. 13 is already a difficult age. Waiting until 16 could give teenagers more time to develop emotional resilience and self-esteem.
That said, raising the age is not the perfect solution. It needs to happen alongside:
✔️ Enforcement of the Online Safety Act
✔️ Better adolescent and parent education
✔️ Consideration of access to VPNs and how they might bypass restrictions
