When the Prophet ﷺ called the believers to give, Umar ibn Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) brought half of his wealth and said, “Today I will surpass Abu Bakr.”
But Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came with all that he owned.
The Prophet ﷺ asked him, “What have you left for your family?”
He replied, “I have left for them Allah and His Messenger.”
Umar then said, “I will never compete with you again.”
Abu Bakr was not the wealthiest of the Companions, but he was among those with the deepest trust in Allah.
In every season of goodness, the same question remains: What can you give today, seeking the reward of Allah?
