Marawi’de Tarihi Adım: Kabartma Kur’an Eğitimi Başarıyla Tamamlandı!

10-25 Ağustos 2026 tarihleri arasında Filipinler’in Marawi şehrinde; IBQS, TİKA, ÇARE Derneği, TUFIFSA ve Sharief Group of Colleges iş birliğiyle düzenlediğimiz Kabartma Kur'an Eğitimi programımızı dualarla tamamladık.
🇵🇭✨🇹🇷

İbrahim Macarandas'ın sunuculuğunu üstlendiği kapanış programı, öğrencilerden Ali Nur Talip'in Kur'an-ı Kerim tilavetiyle başladı.

"Braille Kur'an Eğitimi Bölgede Bir İlk"

A Historic Step in Marawi: Braille Quran Training Successfully Completed!

We concluded—with prayers—the Braille Quran Training program we organized in Marawi, Philippines, from August 10–25, 2026, in collaboration with IBQS, TİKA, ÇARE Association, TUFIFSA, and the Sharief Group of Colleges. 🇵🇭✨🇹🇷

The closing ceremony, hosted by İbrahim Macarandas, began with a recitation of the Holy Quran by student Ali Nur Talip. During the program, speeches were delivered by students Nur Cennah, Alım Ashary Hadjı Alawı, and Amerah Watamama Manaol, as well as by Dr. Abdülhamid M. Gunda and IBQS President Halis Kuralay. Following the speeches, the students presented a recital of religious hymns (*ilahi*).

After moving speeches by Sultan Ador—who opened the doors of the NMS Center wide and provided unwavering support and care—and his wife, Dr. Noralin Mangondato Sharief, the closing ceremony concluded with refreshments and a group photo session.

Halis Kuralay: "A Bridge of Friendship Has Been Built Between Two Societies"

IBQS President and course instructor Halis Kuralay outlined the work carried out by the Braille Quran Association and offered prayers for the liberation of Palestine and all oppressed Muslims. In his speech, Kuralay emphasized that everyone has the capacity to share their resources and can find someone in their community who is in need of help. Noting that the training participants included both those who already knew how to read the Quran and those encountering the Braille alphabet for the first time, Kuralay stated that each student was gifted a Braille Quran, an *Elif-Ba* (introductory Quran primer), a slate and stylus, and a white cane. Noting that the students expressed having received a white cane for the first time in their lives, Kuralay stated that the program was eye-opening for the visually impaired participants and served to foster friendship and solidarity between the two communities.
"Braille Quran Training: A First in the Region"

The speakers noted that this was the first time training of this nature had been organized in the region and highlighted the significant need among visually impaired individuals to learn the Quran using the Braille alphabet. Attention was drawn to the fact that the dedication, patience, sincerity, and perseverance demonstrated—despite all physical obstacles—serve as an example to everyone.

At the closing ceremony, participants and officials expressed their gratitude and shared the following sentiments:

"You have not only taught the Braille Quran; you have also instilled hope, courage, and self-confidence in our students. The knowledge, experience, and service you have brought from Turkey to Bangsamoro have further strengthened the bonds of brotherhood between our two communities. We pray that this noble service finds acceptance in the sight of Allah and thank you for all your efforts. May Allah be pleased with you.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the institutions that made this historic initiative possible. We hope that this partnership—united by a shared vision of service, inclusivity, and human dignity—will serve as the beginning of new projects to empower individuals with disabilities in Bangsamoro."

When one thinks of the visually impaired, the white cane is one of the first images that comes to mind, isn't it?

None of the 26 visually impaired individuals participating in the Braille Quran course in the Philippines—where we served as instructors on behalf of the International Braille Quran Services Association—had ever owned a cane before. Yes, you read that correctly, but I will state it again: none of these 26 students of ours, who live in the Marawi region of the Philippines, had ever possessed a cane in their lives.

Providing these brothers and sisters with canes—and, within the limited time available, at least showing them how to hold one and explaining its importance—was an indescribable feeling. I extend my heartfelt thanks to our hosts, the Norma Sharif Cultural Center, as well as the Çare Association and TİKA.

We have successfully completed the first week of the Braille Quran Course we organized in the Philippines in collaboration with Çare Association and TİKA.

A total of 26 students—18 boys and 8 girls—participated in our course.

The initial days were quite challenging, especially for our visually impaired female students. To communicate with and begin instruction for students who had never received any prior education—and who did not know English or even how to count—we enlisted the support of sighted Filipino youth.

By the end of the first three days, our hopes that the female students would be able to learn had faded significantly. However, on Friday—the fourth day of training—a remarkable and indescribable surge of motivation emerged. Suddenly, they began to progress rapidly, learning and applying what they had acquired with great excitement.

One of them, Nur Cennet, shared that this was her first-ever educational experience and told us she would "never, ever forget" us.

These words once again demonstrated the immense value of every step we take, even 10,000 kilometers away from home.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone whose efforts and support made it possible for us to bring Quran education to the hearts of those in need, thousands of kilometers away from our country.

Touching a person's life sometimes begins with teaching just a single letter.
We are so grateful to be the means for such a beautiful endeavor. 🤲

Uluslararası Kabartma Kur'an Birliği ekibimiz Filipinler yolcusu!

TİKA'nın desteği ve Çare Derneği'nin ev sahipliğinde bu yılki Braille Kur'an kursumuz, Filipinler'in Marawi şehrinde düzenlenecek. Başkanımız Halis Kuralay liderliğindeki üç kişilik ekibimiz; 8 Ağustos gecesi saat 02.15'te İstanbul Havalimanı'ndan kabartma Kur'anlar, İngilizce Elifba cüzleri, yazı yazmak için tablet &kalemler ve beyaz bastonlarla birlikte yola çıktı.

13 saat süren yolculuğun ardından Filipinler'in başkenti Manila'ya ulaşan ekibimizi Çare Derneği'nin güler yüzlü ekibi karşıladı.

Our International Braille Quran Union team is off to the Philippines!

Hosted by the Çare Association and supported by TİKA, this year's Braille Quran course will be held in the city of Marawi, Philippines. Led by our President Halis Kuralay, our three-person team departed from Istanbul Airport at 02:15 on the night of August 8th, carrying Braille Qurans, English-language Arabic alphabet primers, writing slates and styluses, and white canes.

After a 13-hour journey, our team arrived in Manila, the capital of the Philippines, where they were welcomed by the friendly team from the Çare Association. However, the journey to the training venue was not yet over; they had to return to the airport that same night to fly to the city of Cagayan, followed by a three-hour road trip.

All necessary preparations were completed; the team even attended a wedding ceremony held at the center where the course is to take place (the Philippine Muslim Teachers' College). Thirty visually impaired individuals are expected to participate in the course, which will run from August 10th to 28th.
