About the project ‘Finding Endometriosis using Machine Learning’ (FEMaLe).
IAAD is a partner of the HORIZON 2020 project FEMaLe (ID:101017562). 🌍🤝
FEMaLe is based upon the participation of citizens 🧑‍🤝‍🧑 and healthcare providers 🏥, empowering people with endometriosis from passive recipients of fragmented services to engaged and motivated change agents 💪 in a person-centred health system.
This objective is achieved through multiple means of activities and co-created tools 🔧 developed and validated by FEMaLe.
Personalised partnerships 🤝 will enable innovative actions locally, embedded in a global framework 🌐 to improve sustainability 🌱. The blockchain-based data-driven FEMaLe management platform 🔗 ensures encrypted communication 🔒 to the highest standards.
The FEMaLe vision is to address unmet needs in local contexts 🏘️, gathering people with endometriosis, civil society 🧑‍⚖️, start-ups 🚀, commercial partners 💼, top universities 🎓, researchers 🔬, and changemakers 🌟 in partnerships with empowered citizens, who own their personal data, across many disciplines addressing EHCS (European Healthcare Systems), including health, humanities, law, social and political sciences, advanced computer sciences, and more.

About the project ‘Finding Endometriosis using Machine Learning’ (FEMaLe).
IAAD is a partner of the HORIZON 2020 project FEMaLe (ID:101017562). 🌍🤝
The Challenge: The European healthcare systems (EHCS) are under pressure from a number of megatrends 📈. FEMaLe proposes solutions personalized to individual needs and healthcare contexts.
The challenges:
Increased ageing population 👵👴, leading to a growing number of people confronting one or often multiple chronic conditions 🏥 (i.e., multimorbidity).
Lack of coherent monitoring, data collection, and usage to support clinical decisions and treatments 🧠📊, ultimately reducing patient adverse events, diagnostic delays, misdiagnosis, or even lack of diagnosis altogether.
FEMaLe emphasizes endometriosis, a common inflammatory disease associated with pelvic pain and infertility 💔. It is characterized by lesions of endometrial-like tissue outside of the uterus. It is a persistent, often recurring disease found in people of all ethnic and social groups 🌍.
It is estimated that as many as 10% of people of reproductive age (from menarche to menopause) may be affected by endometriosis, equal to almost 200 million women worldwide 🌍💙.

IAAD is a partner of the HORIZON 2020 project FEMaLe. 🌍🤝
We will rely on participatory processes, advanced computer sciences 💻, state-of-the-art technologies 🔬, and patient-shared data 📊 to deliver:
1️⃣ A mobile health app 📱 for people with endometriosis.
2️⃣ Three clinical decision support (CDS) tools ⚕️ for targeted healthcare providers:
Risk stratification tool for general practitioners 🏥
Multi-marker signature tool for gynecologists 🧬
Non-invasive diagnostic tool for radiologists 🩻
3️⃣ A computer vision-based software tool for real-time augmented reality-guided surgery of endometriosis 🏥🕶️.
Health maintenance organisations (HMO) anticipate reducing the overall cost of treatment by at least 20% 💰 while enhancing patient outcomes ❤️ through the use of CDS tools.
The Scalable Multi-Omics Platform (SMOP) will be based on an open protocol 🔗, fully embedded in ethical and legal frameworks ⚖️, ensuring tailored and personalised usage to improve the lives of patients across Europe beyond the project period. 🌍✨

About the project ‘Finding Endometriosis using Machine Learning’ (FEMaLe).
IAAD is a partner of the HORIZON 2020 project FEMaLe (ID:101017562). 🌍🤝
The main goal of FEMaLe is to personalise the early risk prediction of endometriosis, aiming to ensure individualised intervention and build knowledge for prognostic prevention by identifying subtypes of endometriosis.
We will develop and validate the Scalable Multi-Omics Platform (SMOP) 🧬🔬 that converts multi-omic person population datasets (phenotypic and genotypic) into a comprehensive and personalised predictive model to improve intervention along the continuum of care for people with endometriosis.
Further, FEMaLe will facilitate high-resolution stratification 🧑‍⚕️ of people with endometriosis, enabling the identification of subtype-specific risk factors ⚠️ and providing insight into potential new drug targets 💊 or drug repurposing opportunities 🔄.
This will enable shared decision-making 🗣️ in both primary and secondary care, forming part of a personalised pathway to raise awareness 🧠, health literacy 📚, and empowerment 💪 to prevent a reduction in a person's quality of life ❤️.

Fostering European cooperation with an inclusive intercultural input

We aim at fostering European cooperation by designing, developing and multiplying projects and good practices through a unique platform of interaction, aiming at collectively unlocking the potential for the European agendas, policies and recommendations.

Indeed, we take stock from the EU 2020 strategy though we also are very reflective of changing times and developing a critical thinking approach to develop further our activities. On this matter we organize an in-deep and integrated consultation within the consortiums we are building for each activity, aiming at generating an enhanced European added-value, a EU transnational dimension and at promoting the exploitation of EU initiatives results.

The European Commission as well as a variety of foundations and EU bodies provide funding and grants for a broad range of projects and programmes. Amidst a variety of aims and operational objectives, these structured initiatives co-finances projects aimed at improving the capacity of individuals and institutions in the European Union and neighbouring countries, as well as eligible third countries.
