🔵ILC Statement of Solidarity with Nepal Following the Flood Disaster

The International Labour Confederation (ILC) expresses its deep sorrow over the devastating floods in Nepal, caused by a glacial collapse, which have resulted in immense humanitarian and economic destruction.

According to the information received, hundreds of bodies have been recovered and thousands of people remain missing. The whereabouts of many Nepalese citizens are still unknown, while search and rescue operations continue under extremely difficult conditions.

The floods have caused severe damage to homes, roads, bridges, public transportation and vehicles, while thousands of people have been displaced. The people and workers of Nepal are facing serious difficulties in accessing basic food, shelter and healthcare.

The ILC extends its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those who have lost their lives, wishes a swift recovery to those injured, and hopes that those still missing will be found as soon as possible. We share the pain of the people of Nepal wholeheartedly and express our profound sorrow over the loss of life and widespread destruction caused by this disaster.

We express our strong solidarity with the people, workers and all communities affected by this tragedy. In the face of such a devastating disaster, international solidarity, humanitarian cooperation and our shared responsibility are more important than ever.

We call on the international labour movement to strengthen solidarity with Nepal.

✊️ Justice for Youth, Solidarity for the Future

International Youth Day is an opportunity to recognise the contribution young people already make to our workplaces, communities and societies. It is also a moment to listen more carefully to the challenges they face and to ask whether today’s economic and social systems are offering them a fair start in life.

On International Youth Day, the ILC and its member organisations reaffirm their determination to stand with young people and defend their right to dignity, security, equality and decent work.
Young people should not be asked to wait for a better future. They need rights, opportunities and a meaningful voice today.

Khaled Al-Fanatsah, President of the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions (GFJTU), an ILC member confederation, and Vice President Khaled Abu Marjoub visited our ILC President, Ali Yalçın.

During the meeting, also attended by our ILC Secretary General, Hamza Öksüz, the parties discussed strengthening the existing relations with our member confederation, expanding mutual exchanges of knowledge and experience, and developing joint programmes for the coming period.

We thank Mr. Al-Fanatsah and Mr. Abu Marjoub for their valuable visit, during which we reaffirmed our shared commitment to strengthening cooperation based on labour solidarity and social justice.

The International Labour Confederation (ILC) once again draws attention to one of the most serious violations of human dignity and fundamental rights. Human trafficking, forced labour and modern slavery continue to affect millions of people across the world, despite the commitments made by governments and international institutions.

On this important day, the ILC reaffirms its solidarity with all victims and survivors of trafficking.

We remain committed to defending workers’ rights and strengthening international trade union cooperation against all forms of forced labour, exploitation and modern slavery.

Human dignity cannot be negotiated. No person should be exploited, and no body should be deprived of freedom for profit.

ILC President Ali Yalçın and ILC Secretary General Hamza Öksüz attended the 43rd Türkiye-EU Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) Meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, Ali Yalçın stated that, at a time when social dialogue and relations of trust are needed more than ever, the continuation of dialogue between Türkiye and the European Union, as well as with other countries on the path towards EU membership, is of great importance. He underlined that the meeting provides a valuable platform for civil society organisations and social partners to exchange views and contribute to mutual understanding.

Hamza Öksüz delivered a presentation titled “Labour and Human Centred Digital Transformation” during the session “Digital Transformation, Technological Development and Innovation: Policies and Governance”.

ILC Secretary General Hamza Öksüz, in his address at the Istanbul EdUnion Forum, referred to the founding process of the ILC, its vision for strengthening international trade union solidarity, and its 2026 activity plan.

Öksüz stated that the ILC aims to be a confederation that not only responds to current problems, but also produces solutions and provides guidance for the future of work.

Emphasizing that digitalization, artificial intelligence, and transformations in working life create new responsibilities for the trade union movement, Öksüz underlined that trade unions must not only criticize these processes, but also develop policies, guide workers, and build new areas of rights.

Öksüz stated that the ILC will continue to struggle both to protect job security in transforming occupations and to safeguard the rights of workers in newly emerging fields of employment. In this framework, he noted that the ILC will pursue its efforts to protect labour during the process of digital transformation, regulate new forms of work in line with decent standards based on human dignity, and enable trade unions to guide the labour of the future.

📍İstanbul EdUnion Forum 2026

The Istanbul EdUnion Forum, organized by Eğitim-Bir-Sen, an affiliate of Memur-Sen, a member confederation of the ILC, was held in Istanbul on 16-17 June 2026 under the theme “Education and Labour in an Age of Global Uncertainty: Common Challenges, Common Solutions.”

The Forum brought together 67 education unions from 55 countries.

Ali Yalçın, President of the ILC and President of Memur-Sen and Eğitim-Bir-Sen, emphasized that education and labour are of strategic importance for the common future of humanity in the face of global crises.
