Taking part in a six-month volunteering project in Katowice, Poland, was one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. I joined this adventure thanks to İkinci Şans Association (Second Chance Association), my sending organization from Türkiye, which supported and guided me throughout the whole process.
Through their cooperation with Bonafides Volunteering Organization in Poland, I had the opportunity to take part in various educational and cultural activities. My main role was to teach English to children and organize creative workshops that encouraged them to learn in a fun and engaging way. Seeing their motivation grow every week was incredibly rewarding.
One of the highlights of my project was working with students at a gastronomy high school, where I introduced them to Turkish cuisine. Together, we prepared çiğ köfte, shared stories about Turkish food culture, and discussed how food connects people beyond borders. Watching Polish students enjoy something so uniquely Turkish made me truly proud.
During these six months, I not only improved my teaching and communication skills but also learned to work in an international team. I met inspiring people from different countries, discovered new perspectives, and gained a deep appreciation for Polish culture and hospitality.
I’m deeply grateful to İkinci Şans Association for giving me this incredible opportunity to grow, explore, and contribute. This experience reminded me how volunteering can change lives starting with your own.
