At the centre of Ahmet Doğu İpek’s practice are works on paper using watercolour, ink, and charcoal. In his work, where a figurative language is expanded through abstraction, the spirit and atmosphere of the present are explored through natural phenomena, the city, and geography. Multi-layered structures, repetitions, textures, patterns, and masses constitute the fundamental visual components of the artist’s work.
Sound of the Ground – Face of the Stone, the monograph encompassing the artist’s practice over the past fifteen years, most of which are developed as part of a series, appeared in print in 2025 by Mousse Publishing and Galeri Nev Istanbul. İpek’s solo exhibition Iron Earth Copper Sky, which opened in October 2025 at Tate St Ives in the United Kingdom, recently concluded. Earlier solo exhibitions include A Halo of Blackness Upon Our Heads, at Arter in 2022, curated by Selen Ansen, and Days, presented at the Galata Greek School in 2017.
A selection of İpek’s works was included in Vitamin D3: Today’s Best in Contemporary Drawing, published by Phaidon Press in 2021. The artist’s book Days, bringing together 89 works from the series of the same name, was published in 2018. Since his first exhibition in 2012, İpek’s works have been included in the collections of Arter, Istanbul Modern, and OMM. The artist lives and works in Istanbul. dizayn by
