Up early this morning to bury Buddy and the others, I tried to do it yesterday but couldn't get to the gave due to the height of the grass so Birol kindly strimmed it all for me yesterday afternoon πŸ’•

The count goes at ....

60 Cats/Kittens πŸˆπŸˆβ€β¬›
2 Dogs πŸ• πŸ•β€πŸ¦Ί
1 Hen (Henny died in her sleep 😭) πŸ“
1 Cockerel πŸ”

πŸ’”πŸ’•

The rest of the day I will be, amongst other things no doubt, be cleaning and doing meds.

(View from the grave, it's lovely and peaceful down here, I would still like to get a bench so I can, when I get 5 minutes 🀣, sit down here)

It is with an incredibly heavy heart I have to tell you that Buddy died late yesterday afternoon.

For those of you that don't know his story I found him on the side of a road on Christmas morning 2021, the new regulations for banned dogs were just coming in so they were dumped as they were pitbull mixes. They were frightened and the relief in their faces when I stopped will never leave me. Buddy ran straight to me Dudley following a little bit more unsure. It was a really busy road so I quickly got them into the car and I went to get them supplies and gave a quick vet check local to where i was.

Due to their age and a misinterpretation of the new laws I had to fight hard to make sure they weren't removed to the government shelter and destroyed.

Their first few months were spent out away from the other dogs as they were so small; they moved everyone they met; loved the village cats and even the chickens weren't an issue with them. πŸ’•

Buddy and Dudley were very bonded, Dudley is the more insecure one of the two and always looked for his brother for support and comfort. I'm hoping his bond with the other dogs will make his loss not so great. He has seen Buddy since he's died so he will have an understanding that he's gone but I will be keeping a close eye on him.

Gone far too soon, I'm sorry Buddy you truly will be missed

πŸ’”πŸ˜

P.S. I'm donating the serums and medicines he was due to have back to the vets who are very active on caring for the street and beach dogs (and cats) of Bitez for it to be used for any of them that need it.

(Picture of Buddy and Dudley the day I found them, they were around 4 months old)

Early start this morning, kitten room cleaned and then down to Safari vets to see Hatice by 9 o'clock. I took advice from her yesterday evening regarding Buddy, who still hasn't eaten anything, and it was decided he need to go in this morning if he refused to eat again today which he did πŸ˜•.

Today he looks much worse and has gone yellow due to the lack of food 😭. He's had another blood test as I didn't have a copy of his one from Monday and we also needed to see where he stood today. He's got Ehrlichia which is a pretty common blood parasite here. He's now having serum and supportive meds and I will now start to force feed him and give extra meds and support supplements at home. Hopefully it's not too late for him but the lack of food has added extra issues πŸ˜•πŸ€žπŸ€žπŸ™πŸ™

I also took Platinum with me, he's had a cold and has had some meds the last few days but I found him last night and although his snotty nose was much better he was breathing fast and drooling. He spent the night in the bedroom and kindly pee'd on the bed πŸ™„πŸ€£. Hatice doesn't have an xray machine so we could check his chest but he's had a blood test and does have an infection, I did have him on a good antibiotic but as he's got slightly different symptoms now he's been changed to a different one.

I will administer more serum at home for Buddy and Platinum if he needs it. Hatice has given me a supply with extra meds in it. Hopefully he will start eating himself again soon πŸ™πŸ™

Hatice has kindly said I can pay their bill in a few weeks time as I'm totally out of money at the moment πŸ˜•

Buddy went back to the vets on Tuesday morning as he still hadn't eaten. He's had some different meds and I'm continuing that at home but he's again still not eaten anything. I will pop out and get some chicken today and make him some chicken and rice and see if that temps him a bit. He seems fine ish in himself but not eating is now becoming a major worry πŸ˜•. I've messaged Bilal and am waiting to hear back, with it being holiday time the vets is on a very limited working time.

Today was a slow start as Jay decided to sleep on my legs while I was having a coffee and you know the rules when a cat sits on you 🀣🀣.

Vet visit today which including Buddy who's been off his food for a couple of days. After a blood check was done it was found he's got a blood parasite so is now on some antibiotics. I actually started him on them last night so here's hoping he will be eating by tomorrow 🀞.

It's holiday time as of tomorrow afternoon so the vets will be closed till next Monday although Bilal will be going daily for an hour or so if I have anything urgent that needs dealing with but not having access to the vets properly does stress me a little. Fingers crossed everyone will be fine πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ€žπŸ€žπŸ€žπŸ€ž

Shonagh has been up again over the weekend and has helped with both cleaning and getting organised, it's been lovely having a second set of hands around to help and someone to work with, I'm going to miss her πŸ’•

Sorry for the delayed update regarding Sami, I sort of couldn't face saying but unfortunately she took a quick turn for the worse on Thursday evening and died early Friday morning, it seems sepsis got a hold of her little body and she just couldn't fight it, it was so fast I was shocked and am sad that she didn't make it πŸ’”πŸ˜.

This week I hope to carry on the momentum and get more work done, I collected a shelving unit that someone was selling on Sunday and will sort out putting it somewhere for the cats to use and lounge on. I might need to wait for a second set of hands to get it into the catio though 😳

Thanks for all those who support W&S I truly appreciate your support πŸ’•

Not sure if people remember but on 17 March I got a bakery cat neutered, his name was Hamur. I popped to the bakery yesterday to be told that he had started swiping at people and that I could/should take him away.

As it's coming up to festival/holiday time here the bakery has become busy and while I was there some customers from out of town took offence by his presence so the staff were trying to chase him out onto the road. I didn't have a carrier with me so got him and put him in the car where he sat on my knee for most of the journey to the pet shop where I bought another carrier for him to keep him safe.

As his character has changed, the staff blaming his nurturing for his aggression, I asked Erkan to check him over as a change in character usually means something is wrong and when handling him he seems to be in pain. Erkan confirmed that he had an oldish, back/hip injury that was still tender and a very recent damage to the base of his tail, possibly from a bite. He was still fit enough to be vaccinated and has been brought home and has gone into the catio. He's getting used to it, it's all a culture shock for him πŸ’”πŸ˜•. But I was left in a difficult position and couldn't bare to see him dead in the road.

He's a very sweet attentive boy and hopefully once he's had his course of antibiotics he will be feeling much better. He's a cat who sticks up for himself and is possibly over stimulated by physical contact all the time and also possibly any only kitten as he's not learnt about not giving love bites. I wish I could find him a home as he would probably be more suited to that than being here but, for now, he's safe and will settle in time πŸ€žπŸ’•

He is now called Hemel πŸ’•

Quick update on Sami... she had her op yesterday, lots of infection inside to the point where her bone was like sponge and had a hole in the side where it has been eaten away.

Erkan spent a long time cleaning it all out then working out a way to stabilise it all. She's now got two pins in it which will be removed in a couple of weeks. Her hip on that side is also damaged and may need a second operation to sort that out as well. The damage to the other hip will heal with crate rest.

In herself Sami is currently fine, she's come out with a leg, albeit swollen, smaller than when she went it, really shows how much infections as in there πŸ™€

She's ok carrier rest with times of tlc sitting on the bed with me πŸ’•

She has, finally, started eating wet food on her own but im keeping an eye on consumption and will continue to top her up if needs be.

If anyone can help towards her operation costs I would appreciate it. By this time last year, for just March - May, I had taken in, amongst some adult cats, 35 kittens. This year ive had to turn many away and have only accepted Sami as I was her only chance due to her being injured. Unfortunately I just can't afford to cover the majority of the costs for them all.

Thanks πŸ™

Meet Sami, she arrived here on Friday after I received a message from Neslihan, from a neighbouring village where Tallulah came from about her. I've helped Neslihan out before and she does a lot with caring for the animal in her village but was unfortunately away till next week.

A young girl has been caring for her and her 3 other siblings and mum and had found her with a very swollen back leg and she wasn't eating. I went and collected her and it was clear something major was going on with her. I reached out to Erkan and came up with an immediate plan of action and I cared for her at home and she went to the vets yesterday.

Yesterday Erkan examined her and she had xrayed which showed she has a broken leg, the opposite hip is damaged and there's also some damage to the lower spine πŸ™€. She was obviously in a lot of pain and I have also concerned she had some sort of infection as she wasn't eating much and grinding her teeth. πŸ˜•

Erkan has given her antibiotics and some painkiller and she has been booked in to be operated on tomorrow (Monday). Erkan is hoping to externally pin the leg, she's too small to have internal fixtures, but it will all depend what he find when he gets in and sees the bone itself. πŸ™€πŸ™πŸ€žπŸ™

The good news is that after a lovely sleep after her medicine yesterday she has come to life and is acting much more like a kitten and is also eating again, albeit I'm syringe feeding her. πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

I've spoken to the cat lady from the other village and she will make sure mum and the other kitten get spayed/neutered when it's time πŸ€žπŸ™πŸŽ‰

On Thursday I also took on a street cat from Şengul, she's around 5 year's old and has constant mouth issues. Erkan happened to know this cat and he has been treating her when she's been brought in previously but this time he preferred that she have daily medicine to try and sort the issue out over a one off injection and be put back on the street again so I agreed to take her to treat her.

Shonagh has kindly come and spent the last couple of days here helping me get a bit further organised. I cannot tell you how further along I am with her help, she's a whirlwind and is truly making a huge difference to not only my life but that of the animals too πŸ’•. She's not on Facebook but I wanted to acknowledge publicly what a difference her help has and is making. πŸ₯°

So this morning I went to transfer Gri Kiz to a crate to find she had a hernia at her wound site so she's been back to Nazar's clinic and has had a repair job, she's now resting in her crate. She will be with me for a few days while her wound heals then will be back out side.

Zak is still receiving treatment, his cannula isn't working so Nazar will put another one in this evening for me. πŸ™
