“School of Galen” is a 7-day international spring school which will be held in Manisa & Ayvalık (Balıkesir) and aims to increase awareness and knowledge of medical students about sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Developing participants’ occupational, social and personal abilities while having good time and making them leave the spring school with good memories and friendships are aimed with t
hese programs. Trainings
To be much more efficient and target-oriented during the event, professional trainers, Umitcan Unver from Selcuk University and Metin Yesiltepe from Akdeniz Univerity will give trainings to participants about “Leadership” and “Project Management”. It is also assumed that these trainings will help to spread the results of the event and to design future projects. Scientific Program
During the spring school, presentations about certain STD cases which are prepared by participants under the supervision of the academic counsel committee will be presented. In this way students’ more active participation to the subject will be achieved. Considering all the participants are medical students, aside from bookish knowledge, it is planned that presentations will be consisted of global epidemiological status of STDs and global and local measures to prevent them. All the scientific program sessions are named after scientists who are pioneered in STDs researches. Workshops
To make medical people of the future, like their pioneers in the ancient ages, to develop themselves, not only in occupational fields, but also in fields like fine arts and philosophy, several workshops are added to the spring school’s program. In Workshops like “Short Movie”, “Poster Design” and “Song Composing” , the works that are created within these workshops will not only develop participants creative skills, also will be used for promotional purposes to increase the public awareness about STDs. Aside from these workshops, also local traditional workshops like “Çini” (Encaustic Tile), “Ebru” (Marbling) and “Ceramics” are planned. Aristotle Times
In “Aristotle Times”, which is a tradition of TurkMSIC Celal Bayar University Local Committee’s congresses, it is aimed to make young people to meet thinkers, artists and litterateur who will channel them to widen their world views and think. Social Program
Freddie Mercury Party: In this party which will be in the first night of the spring school and will be dedicated to Queen’s legendary soloist who passed away in 1991 because of AIDS, it is planned to give participants an ambient where they can get rid of their travel tiredness and find opportunity to meet each other. Gala Program: In Gala which will be held within Pergamon – Asklepion theme where Galen who gave his name to our spring school spent his scholarship and medical years at, participants will find opportunity both to experience the breathtaking atmosphere of ancient medical center and to enjoy the music of great orchestra. Asklepios Party: The party, which takes its name from ancient Greek god of medicine “Asklepios” to attract attention to the area’s historical past and richness, will be held in hotel and participants will find opportunity to present their works in this party. Ayvalık Tour: After the end of spring school, participants will attend to a tour where they will find opportunity to know and see Ayvalık. Within this tour they will be accompanied by tourist guides.
