Liberian Students’ Association in Türkiye Launches Free Turkish Language Program for Liberians at Home and Abroad

The Liberian Students’ Association in Türkiye (LIBSAT) is pleased to announce the launch of a free online Turkish language program open to all Liberians, both at home and abroad, who wish to learn the Turkish language at the beginner or intermediate level.

Meanwhile, the program is designed to help participants build essential skills in speaking, reading, and writing Turkish, while also preparing them for opportunities to study, work, or travel in Türkiye and beyond.

Further, course content will include structured lessons in reading, writing, and speaking, Turkish stories tailored for beginner and intermediate learners, and guided interaction with Liberian Turkish speakers to support real world practice.
Interested applicants can apply starting today, August 20, 2026, through the application deadline of September 6, 2026. Classes will officially begin on Monday, September 7, 2026.

Kayseri City, Turkey — August 6, 2026

On July 25, 2026, members of the Liberian Students’ Association in Turkey (LIBSAT) embarked on an excursion to Cappadocia, a UNESCO World Heritage region in central Turkey renowned for its otherworldly rock formations and its layers of ancient history.

Among the highlights was our descent into the Derinkuyu Underground City, the deepest and most extensive of Cappadocia’s subterranean settlements. Carved into soft volcanic rock, it plunges roughly 60 meters below the surface across multiple levels, complete with ventilation shafts, stables, wine presses, chapels, and massive rolling stone doors once used to seal off invaders. Historians trace its earliest excavation to the Phrygians as far back as the 8th century BC, with Byzantine Christians later expanding it into a refuge city capable of sheltering thousands during times of persecution and invasion. It was an eye opening reminder of just how far human beings will go to survive and protect their communities.

In addition, we also visited St. Theodore Church, one of Cappadocia’s rock hewn Byzantine churches dating to the 10th or 11th century. Hollowed directly from a cliff face, its plain exterior conceals a surprisingly grand interior, with faded frescoes depicting Christ, the church’s founders, and various saints. It stands as a quiet but powerful reminder of the region’s role as an early Christian stronghold, long before the Ottoman era began.

Finally, walking through these sites brought history to life in a way no textbook could. Students engaged directly with more than two thousand years of human resilience, faith, and architectural genius, all beneath the same open sky. More updates to come. Stay tuned.

The leadership and entire student populace of the Liberian Students Association in Turkey (LIBSAT) wish to express our deepest and most sincere gratitude to Mr. Martin K. N. Kollie for his generous support toward our historic July 26th Independence Day Celebration held in the Republic of Turkey.

In the course of planning this event, we reached out to numerous prominent diaspora figures and government officials, seeking financial assistance to make this celebration a success. Many responded with promises. Only one answered with action. Of everyone we approached, Mr. Kollie stood alone as the single individual who matched his words with a genuine contribution, joining hands with our students’ own efforts to bring this celebration to life.

For this, we remain profoundly grateful. Like the widow’s mite that carried more weight than it appeared, his gesture reminded us that true generosity is measured not by size, but by sincerity. We pray that from wherever that spirit of giving came, more shall flow again, for him and for every heart willing to invest in the future of Liberian students abroad.

(Kayseri City, Turkey — Monday, July 27, 2026): The President, the Executive team, and the Chairman and members of the July 26 Independence Day Celebration Committee of the Liberian Students Association in Turkey (LIBSAT) want to extend our heartfelt thanks to every Liberian who contributed, supported, and believed in this celebration.

Your commitment, hope, and support meant so much to us, and the entire leadership is grateful for the time, effort, and dedication that made our country’s 179th Independence Day Celebration in Kayseri such a success. The bonds and memories we built together over these three days will stay with us, and we will continue to stand united as we pursue our degrees here in Turkey, far from home.

The President and the Executive also want to thank those Liberians who followed and supported the program but couldn’t attend in person. Your support throughout the process meant a great deal to us. To everyone who has already begun their journey home, and to those traveling tomorrow or in the coming days, we wish you safe travels and hope you reach your cities safely. Today, July 26, we had the honor of listening to our keynote speaker, Mr. Emmett Coker, whose words moved everyone in the room. He reminded us to stay resilient and to keep standing together as students, even while so far away from home.

The day also marked something special for LIBSAT. Our newly elected leadership was officially inducted and certified, taking on the responsibility of guiding us through the year ahead. We want to take this moment to congratulate our new leaders: Mr. Abraham Suah as President, Ms. Oumu Abass as Vice President, Mr. Isaac S. Crusoe as Secretary General, and everyone else who stepped up to serve.

It was a day filled with unity, peace, and love, a beautiful way to celebrate home even while being so far from it.

Commentary of what unfolds on the pitch still celebrating Liberia @179🇱🇷.

Capturing on Kayseri Youths Sports pitch today, July 26 brought together two teams. Team Red team including: Abraham (Captain), Melekeh, Shabazz, Morlia, Isaac, Taylor, Sensee, Ayouba, Musa, Madison (Goalkeeper) and Kelvin (Coach) and Team Gray team including: Kiaballah (Captain), Bangalee, Roger, Abel, Varney, Usman, Amadou, Martin, Barry and Barry (Goalkeeper) and Ernest (Coach). On the pitch, first half ended which was 30’ ended 0:0 and in dominance ball possession, Team Red topped with high frequency of passes and chances created.

By 2nd half, nearly 6’ in the game, which was 36’, Team Red captain in Abraham scored the team’s first goal which had them in the lead already. As the game plays, just within 8’, Andy scored in the 42’ the first goal of Team Gray which had the game 1:1 at an equalizer position. As the game goes on with more intensity, in 46’ Kaiballah (Captain) of Team Gray scored a center possession ball; thereby leading Team Red 2:1. With full intensity, as the game goes on, after 9’, Melekeh took a winger possession and scored a prolific goal in 55’ for Team Red which puts the game in a 2:2 at-draw on playing.

While the game plays at its final conclusion of 60’ which was almost 5’ to the game conclusion after Melekeh scored an equalizer goal for Team Red, through a high intensity play of the game, then came a center possession in possession of Team Gray, and after 4’ which was 59’, the winning goal for Team Gray came from Team Gray prolific Stryker in Rogers as he scored the winning goal for Team Gray with the final score of 3:2 win in favor of Team Gray. After a 1’ play, the ref off the game and victory was in honor of Team Gray.

But overall, both teams played an entertaining and mesmerizing football that puts the the spectators in a joyous position with good sportsmanship. At this point, we want to say, the Liberian Students Association in Turkey (LIBSAT) had a great time and it was so much fun.
