Women in International Security (WIIS) è la prima organizzazione al mondo sulla leadership femminile per la pace e la sicurezza internazionali.

WIIS è stato fondato per la prima volta negli Stati Uniti nel 1987 da un piccolo gruppo di donne, che lavoravano nelle istituzioni o in ambito accademico, come risposta alla mancanza di sostegno che le donne ricevevano negli ambienti della politica estera e della difesa, tradizionalmente dominati dagli uomini. L’antenna italiana, WIIS Italy, è nata ad aprile del 2016 ed è gestita da un gruppo di v

olontarie e volontari, che si sono prefissati di promuovere la missione di WIIS attraverso l’organizzazione di eventi, dibattiti e seminari su temi legati alle donne e alla pace e sicurezza internazionali.

Just one week left to apply for the Advanced Training Course in International Peace Mediation: “𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐭: 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝.”

Designed for graduates and early-career professionals, this programme combines expert-led teaching with hands-on simulations and role-playing exercises to equip participants with the practical skills needed to navigate today’s increasingly complex conflict environments.

𝐖𝐈𝐈𝐒 𝐈𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐲, as a co-founding member of the Italian Network for International Mediation (RiMi), is proud to support this initiative and contribute to strengthening the next generation of peace mediation professionals.

As part of the 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗻𝗸𝗮𝗿𝗮 programme during the Summit, Women in International Security Italy was honoured to convene a high-level discussion on 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀, 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻, 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮, bringing together representatives from NATO, governments, parliaments, armed forces, academia and civil society.

The discussion featured our founder 𝗜𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲 𝗙𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻, 𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗢 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹’𝘀 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻, 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 as keynote speaker alongside contributions from our President 𝗟𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗧𝗲𝗼𝗱𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗰𝘂 and the Member of Ukrainian Parliament 𝗜𝗿𝘆𝗻𝗮 𝗡𝘆𝗸𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗸, and the participants of the roundtable whose perspectives enriched the dialogue with diverse insights.

The discussion reflected on a shared conviction: 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲.

As Allies continue to strengthen collective defence and invest in military capabilities, equal attention must be given to the human dimension of security—leadership, resilience, trust, skills and the ability of institutions to draw on the full potential of society.

The event also reaffirmed the importance of a genuine 𝘄𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲-𝗼𝗳-𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵, recognising that effective security depends on strong partnerships between institutions and civil society, and on inclusive dialogue across sectors.

The online discussion will focus on the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda in Ukraine, following the adoption of the new National Action Plan (NAP) 2026–2030. The webinar will bring together representatives of institutions, civil society organisations and women’s rights advocates from Italy and Ukraine to discuss the implementation of the new NAP, and how the WPS agenda can contribute to building a resilient, inclusive and sustainable future for Ukraine.

In questa Giornata Internazionale delle Donne nella Diplomazia, Wiis Italia celebra tutte le diplomatiche, mediatrici, negoziatrici e professioniste che ogni giorno lavorano per promuovere il dialogo e la sicurezza internazionale.
L’auspicio è che sempre più donne possano partecipare pienamente ai processi decisionali e alla risoluzione dei conflitti, contribuendo a costruire democrazie più rappresentative, inclusive e solide.
Non si tratta solo di rappresentanza. Si tratta di efficacia. Le donne devono essere presenti dove si prendono le decisioni che riguardano la pace e la sicurezza, perché una pace inclusiva è una pace più sostenibile.

🔷️"A conversation with" - Conflict and Mediation: latest trends - The IISS Armed Conflict Survey and mediators' firsthand experience

🔹️Behind every statistic lies a complex web of power dynamics, political agendas, and human lives.

🔹️In our latest WIIS Italy & .network discussion, we brought this reality to the forefront.
Reading the Armed Conflict Survey data through the experience of field mediators shifts the debate entirely.
The global trends outlined by Irene Mia, combined with the frontline realities shared by in and Anna Cervi in and beyond, highlighted a complex truth.

🔹️Crisis resolution does not happen by applying rigid formulas. It requires the ability to read conflicts beyond outdated global security paradigms.
