The Need in Syria – and what we are doing about it!
Will you join us?
NW Syria's "widow camps" shelter tens of thousands of widows, divorcees, and women whose husbands are missing, along with their children — among the most overlooked and underserved populations in the Syrian crisis. Across Idlib province alone, more than 50 displacement camps still shelter thousands of families in tents and makeshift shelters, with humanitarian funding continuing to decline even as needs remain severe.
Funding cuts left 1 million Syrians without monthly food assistance last year alone — deepening hunger for families with no breadwinner and no safety net. Many of these widows and their children survive on roughly $20 a month or less.
The danger does not stop at hunger. A 2024 assessment of Aleppo and Idlib found child marriages to be prevalent both in IDP camps and host communities — driven primarily by poverty. Some estimates show child marriage rates are now four times higher among displaced Syrians than before the crisis — daughters offered in marriage simply because a desperate mother cannot feed them.
Around 84% of children in Syria live in locations where child marriage is an issue for girls aged 15 to 17.
With your help, we delivered food packages to impoverished widows and their children living in tents in NW Syria in June and will do so again in early August. By providing this aid, widowed mothers are less likely to offer their daughters in marriage at a young age due to financial burdens. The food bags you make possible are the equivalent of one month's income for these families.
We would like to make these food distributions on a monthly basis and change the lives of these widows and their orphaned children. Will you join us. Please send us a message if you would like to participate. Even a half a food bag will make a world of difference! Thank you for considering this!

Celebrating Eid al-Adha (Kurban) with Sudanese refugees in Uganda.
Roughly 1 in 7 of the globe's internally displaced persons are Sudanese, with over 14 million people displaced. This week Safe Haven for Refugees sponsored 4 goats and several hundred kilos of rice to four different clusters — the way the refugee camp is organized — to celebrate the Islamic feast of the sacrifice. Cooking takes place outdoors over an open wood fire, with large, blackened pots balanced on a large stones on the bare earth . Meals are prepared in the open air, surrounded by walls of tarps and poles tied together.
Fun games were organized for the children, as well as puppet shows and balloon art.
With the recent surge of new arrivals, resources in the camp are stretched thin — but for this day, there was food, laughter, and a small moment of joy in the middle of very difficult circumstances.

SPRING UPDATE 2026
Hi,
Check out our Spring Update at: https://safehaven4refugees.org/updates
We are on the ground in northwest Syria and Uganda, putting food in the hands of those who need it most.
In Syria, your generous giving is making a powerful impact — in March alone we distributed over 300 food bags to some of the most vulnerable families in the region.
Uganda now shelters nearly 2 million refugees. The Sudanese population alone surged from 16,694 in January 2024 to over 95,000 by 2026 — driven by what the UN calls the world's most devastating humanitarian crisis: over 12 million displaced, widespread famine, and more than 20,000 civilian deaths.
In Uganda we are providing food aid to South Sudanese and Sudanese refugees, many fleeing Darfur. We also distributed corn seeds and hoes, equipping families to grow their own food. Several families told us something that has stayed with us: "We can now have breakfast too." For many, one meal a day had been their norm. Your support changes that.
Thank you — your compassion remains a true blessing to countless lives.

Ramadan Mubarak!
We delivered aid to needy residents of Northwestern Syria during first weeks of Ramadan.
Delivery of food boxes to 450 orphan families,
Distribution of 650 hot iftar meals in the rural camps,
Other aid to 60 needy families and four sheep sacrificed — a traditional in which families share meat with those in need — to
to orphans and disadvantaged families living in rural camps.

While many families returned their homes following the end of conflicts in Syria, there are significant number of people still live in camps. Because of the devastating conflicts, Syria remains one of the highest orphan rate counties.
Thank you for your support!

Hayırlı Ramazanlar!

Ramazan ayının ilk günlerinde Kuzeybatı Suriye'de yaşayan ihtiyaç sahiplerine yardım faaliyetleri gerçekleştirdik. Özellikle yetim ve dezavantajlı ihtiyaç sahibi ailelere yönelik Ramazan çalışmamızda;

Seven million Syrians are internally displaced. Your gifts delivered desperately needed food to women in tent cities enduring impossible conditions. Thank you!
We're returning to Syria in February to help those in tents for Ramadan. 90% of Syrians live below the poverty line—many families survive on $20 or less per month. Please contact us if you'd like to help. The need is great and they're so grateful for your support.
