"LOVE IS WHY I SERVE." - Ásena Vito our OTA Teacher

What inspires me to work in the humanitarian field?

LOVE - ÓFA

Love everyone - humanity, love for serving others, and especially love working with persons with disabilities our very own students of Ófa Tui mo e Ámanaki Centre. ❤️

Every person deserves to feel cared, loved, included, valued, respected, and supported. For me, humanitarian work is more than just a job—it is about showing love through our actions, serving with compassion, and making sure no one is left behind. ❤️

🌍 MEET VIKA LAVEMAAU – OUR FINANCE HUMANITARIAN ❤️

“Behind every humanitarian response is a team working to ensure support reaches the people who need it most.”

As a Senior Finance Officer, my role in humanitarian work is, responsible for day-to-day implementation of financial processes which includes Cash Management, Payment of all Invoices, Prepare Payroll, Prepare Monthly payment for PAYE and Retirement, Reconcile PAYE annually, ensuring the organization’s financial records are maintained to a high standard, providing high level financial advice, working in close with DMM to support effective delivery of services to the most vulnerable people in Tonga, and many more.

What inspires me to work in the humanitarian field is that I can build my career where I can directly help people, and to be a lifesaving assistant to those who affected. Working here at the Tonga Red Cross Society is a blessing and it’s reminded me of who we are, and why we are here. So, I believe helping others and love one another is our responsibility to be here on earth. And I was excited and had the opportunity to respond to most vulnerable people in Tonga.

“Let’s step outside our comfort zone for humanity is our responsibility."

❤️ Malo ‘aupito, Vika, for your service to humanity!

🌍 WORLD HUMANITARIAN DAY 2026 ❤️

Today, Tonga Red Cross Society joins the global community in recognising World Humanitarian Day.

Advancing international humanitarian law is an act of shared humanity.

Speaking at the 5th Pacific Islands Roundtable on International Humanitarian Law, Tonga’s Assistant Crown Counsel Sione Tongilava reminded us that every state has a role to play in protecting lives and strengthening respect for IHL, ensuring a safer future for all.

"Strengthening Disaster Preparedness and Resilience Across the Pacific"

Congratulations to Mr. Anitelu Toe‘api, Board Member, and Ms. Teisa ‘Alifeleti, OIC of the Ha‘apai Branch, who represented the Tonga Red Cross Society at a 10-day Disaster Prevention and Reduction Training Seminar held at Wuyi University in China. 🇹🇴🇨🇳

The seminar brought together representatives from Pacific Island countries to strengthen their knowledge and skills in disaster preparedness, emergency management, and community resilience.

The knowledge gained will help the Tonga Red Cross Society strengthen its disaster preparedness, early warning activities, community-based programs, and emergency response.

A big mālō ‘aupito to our generous sponsor, the China Pacific Island Countries Center for Disaster Risk Reduction Cooperation; the organiser, Wuyi University; and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Kingdom of Tonga for this valuable opportunity.

Congratulations to our delegation! 👏

⚽🚑 Longolongo Football Club swapped tackles for bandages and red cards for Red Cross training! 😄

Sione Tali Lihau our Senior First Aid Instructor was delighted to conduct First Aid Training for the team, equipping players with life-saving skills that are just as important as scoring goals. Now, if someone takes a dramatic tumble on the field, there will be plenty of trained first aiders ready to help before the referee blows the whistle! 😅

Thank you, Longolongo FC, for your enthusiasm and energy. We hope you never need to use these skills, but if you do, you'll be ready! ❤️👏

🏠🔨 Storage upgrade and maintenance work at Hihifo, Niuatoputapu Island

Our Fleet Maintenance Officer, Sione Faivailo and sub-contractors are currently carrying out our maintenance work at our storage facility at NTT.

The project included roofing repairs and upgrades, helping to improve the building's durability and protection against adverse weather conditions. In addition, new fencing and fence repairs were completed to enhance the security and safety of the office premises. General maintenance and improvements were also carried out to create a more functional and welcoming environment for staff, volunteers, and community members.

These upgrades strengthen the branch's capacity to deliver humanitarian services, support community activities, and respond effectively to emergencies across Niua.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) for their continued support in helping build stronger and more resilient communities in Tonga.

❤️ Together, we continue to make a difference.
