What a wonderful and successful day it was for the Tonga Leitis Association (TLA), community groups, partners, and supporters who attended the TLA EXPO 2026 at Digicel Square in Nukuʻalofa this morning.

TLA would like to sincerely thank Australia in Tonga for supporting this fantastic initiative, which provides opportunities for women, men, and Leitis across Tonga to develop and showcase their creativity and skills, particularly in floral arrangement and entrepreneurship.

We were privileged to welcome the Deputy High Commissioner of Australia, Alison Gow, as our Guest of Honor, as well as HE Mr. INAGAKI Hisao, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Tonga and his beloved wife and other distinguished guests. We also extend our gratitude to all our partners, stakeholders, and community members who attended and supported the event.

A special thank you goes to all participating groups, vendors, and exhibitors whose involvement made today’s Expo possible. Your dedication and enthusiasm helped create a vibrant and memorable event for everyone.

We are especially proud of our Leitis entrepreneurs who showcased their beautiful arts, crafts, and décor, highlighting the incredible talent, creativity, and skills that exist within our communities and can be shared with the people of Tonga.

As we celebrate the successful completion of the TLA EXPO 2026, we now look forward with excitement to our upcoming Tri Pageant in July.

Congratulations once again to all of today’s winners, and thank you to everyone who contributed to making this event such a great success.

Updates on the Pacific Australia Skills Launch & Validation Workshop.

Tonga Leitis Association (TLA) was honoured to participate in both the official launch on 21 April 2026 and the Stakeholders Validation Workshop on 27 May 2026 for the Pacific Australia Skills Country Plan for Tonga.

Pacific Australia Skills is Australia’s new regional skills program that works closely with Tonga’s TVET sector to unlock economic opportunities, strengthen local industries, and create new employment pathways for Tongans.

During the consultations, TLA proudly advocated for the recognition and inclusion of foundational skills, values we continue to champion through our Community-Based Lifeskills Training Program. This initiative empowers individuals, especially women and youth, to actively participate in Tonga’s economy and build pathways toward economic independence.

We are pleased to see that the priorities validated this week strongly align with TLA’s ongoing community work, reinforcing the importance of community-level skills development.

TLA also supported the validation of the following key priority areas:
✅ Skills System Strengthening
✅ Training for Employment
✅ Regional and Cross-Country Linkages

We look forward to the finalisation of the Pacific Australia Skills Country Plan for Tonga and to continuing our partnership in delivering meaningful skills and training opportunities that empower our communities.

The Tonga Leitis Association was pleased today to welcome Robyn Drysdale and Jovesa Saladoka from the Ministry of Health Tonga, who joined the TLA team for a consultation on the Tonga Health Promotion BCC Short Course.

The consultation provided an opportunity for meaningful discussions on ways to strengthen and advance the capacity of the TLA team in health promotion, particularly in promoting positive social and behavioural change within communities. Conversations focused on health awareness initiatives relating to Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and HIV prevention programs across Tonga.

As TLA continues its ongoing work in HIV awareness and advocacy, the association is also exploring opportunities that will help build the skills and knowledge of its staff and members. The short course is expected to further enhance their professional development, strengthen their experiences, and support the important work they continue to deliver within communities throughout Tonga.
