A Huge Malo ‘Aupito and Congratulations to Elizabeth Philips! 🇹🇴

Today, we celebrate and extend our deepest gratitude to our outgoing Peace Corps Volunteer Officer, Elizabeth Philips, as she completes her Peace Corps Tonga service.

Over the past year, Elizabeth truly went above and beyond. In addition to her Peace Corps service, she served as an Officer on the Friends of Tonga Board of Directors, helping strengthen the connection between current Peace Corps Volunteers, Friends of Tonga, and the communities we all serve.

Elizabeth’s dedication, insight, and commitment helped make our organization stronger and more effective. Through her leadership, she helped ensure that Friends of Tonga remained connected to volunteers serving across Tonga and better positioned to support community-led initiatives.

Malo ‘aupito, Elizabeth, for your incredible service, leadership, and commitment.

Congratulations on completing your Peace Corps journey! We wish you every success in your next chapter, and please know that you will always have a home here at Friends of Tonga.

Mālō ‘aupito to John Pulu and the Tagata Pasifika / TP+ team for highlighting the recent community visit of Haloti Ngata and his family to Tonga.

The visit was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the work being led by Tongan organizations and communities through cultural connection, environmental stewardship, and community partnerships.

We are grateful to the Civil Society Forum of Tonga, Tonga National Youth Congress 2026 , Tonga Citizen Science Initiative, and all of the local volunteers who made this experience possible.

A special thank you to John Pulu for being such a longtime supporter of Friends of Tonga and for continuing to share the stories and efforts of our organization and our partners in Tonga. We truly appreciate your support. 🇹🇴

Mālō ‘aupito to the National Peace Corps Association for sharing the story of Tu’anuku Kindergarten! This project was made possible through the leadership of the Tu’anuku community, our partners in Tonga (especially Schools for the Children of the World and the Civil Society Forum of Tonga), and the many volunteers and supporters who believe in community-led solutions.

We are grateful for the continued support of the Peace Corps community.

The village of Tu’anuku in Tonga ushered in a new era for early childhood education in early February, celebrating the soft opening of a brand-new, resilient kindergarten facility. The project was supported by RPCV group Friends of Tonga and engaged professional rugby players and others to make it happen. Read more: bit.ly/friends-of-tonga-resilient-26

🐠📚 Bringing Tonga’s Marine Life Into the Classroom 🇹🇴

Friends of Tonga is proud to support Peace Corps Volunteers and Tongan communities through the Peace Corps Partnership Program (PCPP).

Led by Peace Corps Volunteers Alf, Ella, and Abigail, this project partnered with the Tonga Ministry of Fisheries to create Color our Community Fishes: Fishes of Tonga’s Reefs — a bilingual coloring book helping students learn about Tonga’s fish species, coral reefs, and the importance of ocean conservation.

Through this project, 1,000 books were distributed nationwide, giving students across Tonga a new way to connect with their marine environment.

Mālō ‘aupito to Peace Corps Tonga and the Ministry of Fisheries - Tonga for their partnership in bringing this project to life. 🇹🇴💙
