A successful community site visit with the EU Commissioner and her delegation. Positively influencing the lives of vulnerable individuals and families at the local level is among the most significant contributions one can make. We express our gratitude to the commissioner and her team for taking time out of the busy PIF week to engage with vulnerable communities and interact with our people.

Nuku'alofa, Tonga: The European Union Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jutta Urpilainen, made a site visit to the Climate and Wash Resilience Community Project, at Popua this week.

Thank you for your support 🙏🙏🙏

🌴🍲There's a new story on our website 🌺🌊

Live & Learn Tonga recently paid a third visit to the small community of Koloa in the Vava’u island group, to finalise the community’s Community Resilience Profile, as part of the Climate Resilient Islands Programme.

Community members celebrated their growing relationship with the team by catching the local delicacy, a wondrous-looking crustacean called a ‘valo’.

This rare dish is only eaten on special occasions, such as when requested by the king when he visits the island. The community so values their local delicacy that they asked for a photo of it to appear on their Community Resilience Profile, as a symbol of their community.

Climate Resilient Islands is a New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade initiative, implemented by Live & Learn Environmental Education, with funding provided by the New Zealand Government.

The Climate Resilience Island Program Team is pleased to have completed the final community profiling’s for ‘Eua in the communities of ‘Ohonua,Houma and Mata’aho📍🌴.

This allows the team together with the community to review and finalize information from studying contextualized systems in the community between people and place, various kinds of climate and other hazard scenarios, and some in-depth analysis in the areas of livelihood, food security, nature-based systems, and climate vulnerabilities.

To secure food security and local supply of fresh nutritious foods, Biofilta foodcubes provided in response to the Hunga-Tonga-Hunga-Ha’apai Volcanic Eruptions were monitored in 12 different communities. Thankfully, recipients have been making good use of these food cubes, growing varieties of vegetables. 🌱🍅🥦🥕

This is a great achievement and a huge step towards building climate resilience across Tonga. A big MALO
‘AUPITO to our local experts for the efforts 👏👏🤝

We appreciate this initiative's support from the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
