2026 marks the 9th year of the Chinese Embassy and Tonga China Friendship Association (TCFA) High School Scholarships, and due to the generosity of His Excellency, Ambassador Liu Weimin, we have 60 students from Form 3 to Form 7 receiving scholarships that cover School Fees, Exam Fees and Stationary.

The High Schools select the students that show promise and require financial assistance. Students start from Form 3 and if they pass, the scholarship continues to the next year.

This is also the first year for students in Vava’u and ‘Eua High Schools join the Chinese Embassy and TCFA High School Scholarship program.

There are 43 students in Tongatapu, across 13 High Schools and 17 students across ‘Eua, Ha’apai and Vava’u, representing 8 High Schools. Of the total of 21 high schools for the 60 students, 3 high schools are Government schools and 18 are Church schools.

The Princess Royal, Her Royal Highness Princess Salote Mafile’o Pilolevu Tuita presented the Admission Notices for His Majesty’s Scholarship Recipients to the Shanghai Ocean University.

Human trafficking is a serious criminal offence and runs counter to the common values of humanity. China firmly opposes and is actively involved in cracking down on all forms of human trafficking, which represents a global challenge. Greater cooperation is critical to address this complex issue.

Chinese police have looked into the recent reports of transnational marriage‑related disputes. To date, no evidence of human trafficking has been found. We stand ready to conduct further investigations and advance practical cooperation with Tongan law‑enforcement bodies.

Public assertions made before investigations reach definitive findings are irresponsible. Statements issued by a certain diplomatic mission in Tonga under such circumstances risk circulating misinformation even disinformation, which does no good to protecting the interests of parties involved and advancing investigations. All public comments should be grounded in solid facts and evidence.

TCFA Members Attend the Young Leaders Seminar of Pacific Friendship Organisations, Beijing China, 18 to 30 July 2026.

The Ministry of Commerce of China and People to People Diplomacy under CPAFFC launched a leadership training program designed for the Pacific countries. Participants are able to learn about the recent development of China, China's foreign policy and its cooperation with the Pacific countries through this program.

The participants from Tonga and Members of the Tonga-China Friendship Association (TCFA) are Ilaisaane Ntwaagae, John Fifita, Lisipesi Mounu-ki-Moana Ma’afu Malamala, Viviena Motuliki, Tala’inga Luani, and Siutiti Latu. Tonga-China Friendship Association (TCFA) is proud of its team of 6 young competent leaders representing Tonga and TCFA in this important leadership training in Beijing, China.

The Tonga representatives’ acceptance into this program was only possible through the great help and support of the Chinese Embassy in Tonga.
