The Mediterranean Posidonia Network was pleased to announce the participation of Christine Pergent-Martini and Frédéric Villers at today's conference organized by Accord RAMOGE on "Restoring Posidonia Meadows in Ramoge zones" in the framework of the

This event took place at the , just after the signing of a RAMOGE-PELAGOS memorandum of understanding in the presence of Prince Albert II of Monaco.

The on of the Posidonia meadows produced by the Posidonia Restoration working group were presented.

The main objectives of this restoration guidance were as follows:

➡️ To develop structured Posidonia restoration guidelines involving the successive steps from the need to restore, the planning, the sites selection, the actual restoration measures, monitoring, and assessment.

➡️ To present and describe case studies showcasing successful Posidonia restoration measures, particularly those employing nature-based solutions.

➡️ To analyze previous unsuccessful experiments in order to identify the causes of failure, and by doing this, to support the broad knowledge-based implementation of new Posidonia restoration projects whenever and wherever these may be deemed relevant.

Without a heatlhy Mediterranean society and the econimic activities will not be sustainable over time.

The Mediterranean Posidonia Network and it’s members would like to thank the Govern de les Illes Balears for making such an event possible in the capital of Europe. A Coordination between countries in the north and southern Mediterranean is a necessity.

Posidonia Day 🌱🌱🌱⚓️⛵️⛵️⛵️⛵️⛵️

01/03/2023

This day is an opportunity to highlight the importance of the role of seagrass meadows in decelerating the decline of biodiversity and slowing down climate change.

Their contribution to the balance of many ecosystems is enormous. Their destruction of these meadows by human activities, particularly anchoring, means that countless marine species are deprived of a place to live, reproduce and feed. Seagrass meadows are also carbon sinks maintaining hundreds of years old stocks of carbon. Their destruction releases the carbon into the atmosphere and accelerates global warming.

BlueSeeds is working to protect them—Mediterranean Posidonia oceanica meadows in particular—through promising projects:

⛵ Our mooring management tool BlueMooring enables marine protected area managers to raise boaters’ awareness of the presence of Posidonia meadows in the area where they wish to moor;

🔍 The exploration of business models to facilitate the implementation of mooring infrastructures in the Mediterranean, integrating a financing mechanism based on the protection of Posidonia meadows to generate carbon credits;

👥 BlueSeeds is also a member of the Mediterranean Posidonia Network which brings together different stakeholders concerned with protecting Posidonia oceanica and working to prevent its future degradation.
