Dili, 29 April 2026 – At Kios Matenek, Manleuana, DIli, a new initiative has been launched to promote climate justice in Timor-Leste, through the establishment of a Youth Reference Group led by youth organizations with missions in the area of environmental protection, access to justice and youth leadership.

This initiative is supported by JU,S Jurídico Social, with the objective of strengthening the role of youth in demanding their right to ensure an effective response to the challenge of climate change. The program's activities will include the development of a Climate Justice Legal Guideline, training of 100 young people from Dili and Lautém through three training modules (environmental legal framework and human rights, exchange of climate justice experiences, and development of action plan), and include legal representation for youth using mechanisms such as public petitions, environmental protection requests, access to public information from the State and formal protection order and compensation cases. Through this program efforts are being made to contribute towards increased youth knowledge, skills and practical tools to defend and promote climate justice at the community, national and international levels.
