On Day 3, we continued Eskola ba Dame with students and focused on an increasingly important part of young people's everyday lives: Digital Safety and Responsible Online Behaviour.
Technology and social media provide many opportunities for young people to learn, communicate, share information and connect with others. However, rapid and often unregulated digital access can also increase risks such as cyberbullying, harassment, online scams, misinformation, coercion, humiliation and the sharing of personal or private content without consent.
Through real-life scenarios, role-plays, group discussions and reflection activities, students explored how to recognize risks in online spaces and reflected on how they can use technology responsibly.
The conversations also highlighted the importance of protecting personal privacy, thinking before sharing, recognizing unsafe behaviour and understanding that actions online can have real consequences for another person's dignity, safety and well-being.
We also discussed how online spaces can amplify gender-based violence, stigma, coercion and humiliation.
At the end of the session, students worked together to create their own Digital Safety Pledge — a commitment to protect privacy, think before sharing, stand against online bullying and use technology to promote learning, peace and positive connections.
Day 3 reminded us that peace does not stop when we go online. Respect, consent, dignity and responsibility should remain part of our relationships, both online and offline.
Thank you to all the students for their participation and willingness to learn how to become responsible digital citizens and peacebuilders. 📱💙
