🗓️On 10 and 11 June 2026, WATL formalized the signing of agreements with implementing partners including HADEER, LBF, HDI, FHTL, GFFTL, HAK, and PN-BESI-TL for the implementation of the 's the Australian Government through the Australian NGO Cooperation Program ( ) - Haforsa Adaptasaun Klimátika ne'ebé Reziliente, Inkluzivu, no Sustentável (HARIS) Project. 🌱🌐

The project will be implemented from June 2026 to May 2027, and this project aims to strengthened sub national systems for inclusive, climate resilient, evidence-based WASH and WRM services through promote Nature-based Solutions (NbS) that strengthen climate resilience, improve water security, and support sustainable ecosystem management in Liquiçá, Manufahi, Bobonaro, and Ermera municipalities. With a total budget allocation of USD 159,601.46, these partnerships reflect a shared commitment to collaboration and collective action in delivering sustainable outcomes for communities. 🫱🏼‍🫲🏽✨

This World Environment Day, under the theme "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.", we recognize the important role that healthy ecosystems play in strengthening water security, protecting communities, and building resilience to climate change.

Through climate-resilient WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) services, sustainable water resource management, support to GMF members through operation and maintenance (O&M) training, and tree planting activities with communities, WaterAid Timor-Leste is working alongside partners and communities to help protect water sources and promote a more sustainable future. 💧🌿

🗓️On 21 & 22 May, communities in Hatarlema sub-village in Liquiçá and Palinamo sub-village in Ermera participated in Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) supported by the Australian Government's PARTISIPA program, to share their experiences, knowledge, and perspectives on natural resource management and Nature-based Solutions (NbS).

The discussions highlighted the important roles of women, men, youth, and persons with disabilities in protecting water sources, conserving land, strengthening livelihoods, and building climate resilience within their communities. Participants also reflected on local knowledge passed down through generations, community participation in decision-making, and the importance of inclusive approaches that ensure everyone can contribute to sustainable development. Through these discussions, communities shared both the benefits and challenges of NbS implementation, while strengthening collective efforts toward resilient, inclusive, and sustainable natural resource management for future generations. 🌐🌱

Strengthening Climate Resilience through the Kiwa PRESERVE Project 🌎🪴

We are pleased to announce the launch of the regional Kiwa PRESERVE Project, led by WaterAid Australia and in partnership with Live & Learn Environmental Education and Permatil. This initiative supports communities in Timor-Leste, Papua New Guinea, and Samoa through Nature-based Solutions (NbS) to strengthen climate resilience and water security.

Through this project, communities will be supported to project water sources, strengthen ecosystem restoration, and promote sustainable approaches that contribute to safer and more resilient livelihoods. The initiative also promotes inclusive participation by supporting the engagement of women, youth, and people with disabilities in climate action and community-based solutions. In Timor-Leste, the project will be implement in 4 villages in Manufahi municipality: Daisua, Rotutu, Grotu, and Betanu. 🌱🫱🏼‍🫲🏽
