ChildFund Timor-Leste, in partnership with the Ministériu Solidariedade Sosiál no Inkluzaun (MSSI) and Asosiasaun Juventude Hakbi’it Justisa Timor-Leste, successfully conducted the Swipe Safe Online Safety Training for professional workers and caregivers on Atauro Island.

The training equipped participants with essential knowledge and practical skills to support children in navigating the digital world safely, responsibly, and confidently. By strengthening awareness of online risks and promoting positive digital engagement, the initiative contributes to creating safer online environments for children and young people.

Together with government partners and communities, we remain committed to protecting children and empowering families in an increasingly connected world.

As we celebrate World Environment Day, let us renew our commitment to protecting our natural resources, building resilient communities, and creating a greener, more sustainable future for all.

Climate change is causing drought seasons to become longer and more severe, making it increasingly difficult for farmers to access the water they need for their livelihoods. Reduced water availability threatens food production and increases the risk of food insecurity.

“The water conservation pond provides enough water to help us get through the dry season when water is scarce,” said Alcina Pinto, a local farmer from Bauro, Lautém Municipality.

The community water pond conservation initiatives supported by ChildFund Timor-Leste and Plan International Timor-Leste through the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) project, funded by Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, in partnership with Fraterna ONG, are helping local farmers improve water availability, strengthen agricultural production, and build resilience to climate change.

Together, we can protect our environment and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.

We are honored that the module was officially validated by MSSI's General Director of Social Protection, Mr. Florencio Pina Dias Gonzaga, and integrated into the Ministry of Social Solidarity and Inclusion (MSSI)'s "Hametin Família" module.

This milestone reflects a shared commitment among the government, partners, and communities to empowering families and communities with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly.

ChildFund Timor-Leste, in collaboration with Secoms and MSSI, successfully organized a two-day refresher training on Digital Wall Magazine for high school teachers from four schools in Lospalos:

• Escola Secundária Técnica Vocacional No. 1 de Lospalos
• Escola Secundária Técnica Vocacional No. 2 de Lospalos
• Ensino Secundário Geral Lere Anan Timur

The training took place at Ensino Secundário Geral Nino Konis Santana in Lospalos, Lautém Municipality.

The refresher training was designed to enhance participants’ capacity to manage and develop school websites and Digital Wall Magazine platforms. Throughout the training, participants reviewed website content, explored Swipe Safe online safety and child protection topics through sessions facilitated by MSSI, strengthened their writing and storytelling skills, and gained practical knowledge of website content creation and management from Secoms trainers.

Through initiatives like this, ChildFund Timor-Leste and its partners continue to promote digital literacy, safe online engagement, and effective communication skills among young people and educators.

𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐰𝐢𝐩𝐞 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞: Strengthens Child Protection Together with Partners

ChildFund Timor-Leste, through its child protection program under the Swipe Safe project, held a meeting with partners from the Ministériu Solidariedade Sosiál no Inkluzaun(MSSI) and Asosiasaun Juventude Hakbi’it Justisa Timor-Leste to discuss child protection modules.

The meeting focused on exploring ways to further integrate two modules — one on Parenting and another on Frontline Professionals for child protection — into MSSI’s Family Strengthening module. Through this integration, the two additional modules will complete the set of 16 modules under MSSI’s Family Strengthening Program.

This represents an important milestone in the collaboration among the three parties, strengthening their joint efforts and improving cooperation, particularly in the area of child protection.

Together, we continue working toward a future where every child is protected, supported, and empowered.

We are proud to work in partnership with the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) through the Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP) to strengthen child protection efforts and support safer, more secure futures for children and families in Timor-Leste.

ChildFund Timor-Leste, through its Education Program’s Early Development and Intervention for Children (EDIC) project, recently conducted a hands-on training on disaster risk management and fire safety in schools, including practical guidance on the proper use of fire extinguishers.

On the first day, a session facilitated by our Disaster Risk Management Project Coordinator, Maun Gonçalo Ximenes, featured interactive discussions and shared experiences on identifying hazards and strengthening basic disaster risk reduction skills.

On the final day, the Civil Protection Authority (APC) in Lautem Municipality, led a practical session for teachers, demonstrating how to properly use different types of fire extinguishers, supporting the Ministry of Education (MoE) accreditation requirements and reinforcing safer learning environments.

Swipe Safe apoia labarik sira atu dezenvolve reziliénsia dijitál, enkoraja família sira atu envolve ho forma positivu iha atividade online labarik sira nian, no hametin sistema sira atu prevene no responde ba esplorasaun no abuzu online.

ChildFund Timor-Leste, through its Child Protection Program – Swipe Safe Project, in partnership with the Ministériu Solidariedade Sosiál no Inkluzaun (MSSI), continues to strengthen knowledge on safe internet practices for frontline child protection professionals in the municipality of Liquiça.

The Training of Trainers (ToT) combines interactive learning sessions, group discussions, and practical experience with the Swipe Safe application to strengthen participants’ capacity to prevent and respond effectively to child protection concerns in their communities.

Swipe Safe supports children in developing digital resilience, encourages positive family engagement in children’s online activities, and reinforces systems that help prevent and address online exploitation and abuse.

Together, we are working toward stronger protection systems and safer digital environments for every child in Timor-Leste. 🌐🛡️

We were honored to welcome the CEO of ChildFund Australia to Timor-Leste for an inspiring visit to our programs and partnerships.

During the visit, meaningful meetings were held with the New Zealand Embassy in Timor-Leste and Australian Embassy, Timor-Leste, and Instituto para a Defesa dos Direitos da Criança-INDDICA to strengthen collaboration and our shared commitment to supporting children, families, and communities.

The visit also included a field trip to Lospalos, where the CEO observed program activities firsthand and engaged with local communities to better understand the impact of our work on the ground.

During the field trip to Lospalos, the CEO visited our community preschool in Euquise Laivai under the Education Program, met with youth changemaker alumni under the Youth Program, and visited communities practicing farming activities through demoplots under the DRR Program in Bauro.

Together, we continue working toward a brighter and more inclusive future for children and young people in Timor-Leste. 🌏🤝
