Workshop ho tema “Importánsia Aprosimasaun Agroekolojia, Jestaun Utilizasaun Rai no Hametin Soberania Ai-Han” halibur 101 partisipante, inklui to’os-na’in, sosiedade sivil, governu, autoridade lokal no munisipál, akademia no parseiru dezenvolvimentu.

🌾 Agroecology is a pathway to strengthen food systems, protect land and water, and build resilient communities.

On 29 July, 101 participants came together for a workshop on “The Importance of Agroecological Approaches, Sustainable Land Use Management and Strengthening Food Sovereignty.”
Farmers, civil society organisations, government representatives, local authorities, academics and development partners came together with one shared purpose:
👉 To explore collective solutions for building a sustainable, resilient and community-centred food system in Timor-Leste.
🌱 Agroecology is not only about how we grow food.
It is also about:
🌾 Protecting and caring for our land
💧 Conserving water
🌿 Valuing local resources and traditional knowledge
👩🌾 Strengthening farmers’ capacity and livelihoods
🌏 Responding to climate change
🏘️ Strengthening local economies and community resilience
During the workshop, TAPSA members shared experiences from their work with communities and discussed challenges, opportunities and recommendations to strengthen agroecological programmes and policies for food sovereignty.
💬 One important message emerged from the discussions:
Food sovereignty cannot depend only on the central government.
It must start with farmers, families, communities, villages and municipalities, supported by strong collaboration among government, civil society, academia and development partners.
🤝 We all have a responsibility to protect our land, water, food and future.
🌱 Healthy land. Healthy food. Resilient communities. A food-sovereign Timor-Leste.
