RCVC is a public, humanitarian non-profit organisation which provides social protection, medical care, education, vocational training, self reliance and livelihoods programs for refugees and Tajikistan's
most vulnerable citizens. Refugees, Children and Vulnerable Citizens (RCVC) is a public, humanitarian non-profit organisation which provides social protection, medical care, education, vocationa
l training, self reliance and livelihoods programs for refugees and some of Tajikistan's most vulnerable citizens. Since registering with the Ministry of Justice in 1996, RCVC has worked closely with local, international and intergovernmental organisations, in successfully assisting hundreds of marginalised and vulnerable individuals in gaining access to essential services, such as health care, legal advice and employment. Our livelihoods and vocational training programs seek to help beneficiaries in rising out of poverty by providing them with the skills, knowledge and equipment they need to develop sustainable sources of income. The main aim of RCVC is to improve the living conditions of refugees in Tajikistan and promote the local integration through empowerment and building of self-reliance. Our projects:
Refugee assistance project:
Refugee assistance is at the heart of our work here at RCVC. Tajikistan currently hosts around 5000 refugees and asylum seekers most of whom live in Rudaki district, Vadhat city and Khujand. Refugees constitute one of the most vulnerable population groups within Tajikistan. New arrivals are at an increased risk and are usually in need of immediate assistance and services upon arrival, while long term stayers often lack access to basic services such as medial care, legal representation and employment. RCVC in collaboration with UNHCR provides care and assistance so such individuals in the form of free medical consultations, access to legal advice, assistance with registration issues and programs which are aimed at increasing access to education. RCVC and our partner UNHCR also seek to enhance the livelihoods and self-reliance of PoCs through the implemention of a diverse range of livelihood/self-reliance activities. At present, we provide language (English, Tajik and cyrillics) classes, computer literacy sessions as well as beginner and advanced vocational trainings in sewing, hairdressing confectionary, auto mechanic, plumbing and welding. It if hope that through providing individuals with access to these vocational trainings they can develop the skills which will allow them to find meaningful employment and build sustainable livelihoods for themselves and their families. RCVC also provides a limited number of small grants for those wishing to establish their own business start-ups. DAFI scholarship project:
Since 1992, the German government has funded the annual Albert Einstein German Academic Refugee Initiative (DAFI) to support tertiary education for deserving refugees worldwide. The programme grants scholarships to refugees at universities, colleges and polytechnics in their host countries. In 2008, the programme also started offering education opportunities in their countries of origin to refugees considering repatriation. The DAFI programme contributes to skills development, empowerment and academic achievement as part of a broader UNHCR strategy of promoting self-reliance and durable solutions for refugees. Its primary objective is to achieve self-reliance by providing a higher education that will lead to gainful employment. Since 2008, RCVC and its implementing partner UNHCR have been successful in securing a number of DAFI scholarships for refugee students whishing to further their studies in Tajikistan. At present we receive 10 scholarships annually, demonstrating the success of out DAFI scholarship project. Awarding of DAFI scholarships is conducted on an annual basis. All perspective refugee students wishing to acess further education are eligible to apply. A maximum of 10 scholarships are awarded each year following an intensive interview based selection process.
