Raising Awareness on Women’s Health and Renewable Energy in Rudaki
In Rudaki District, we recently brought together community members for a vital session focusing on two pillars of a resilient future: women’s health and renewable energy.
Supported by the "Improving Mother and Child Health in Central Asia" project and the EURECA programme—funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)—this event focused on:
• Health & Prevention: Led by Sohibjamol Muminova, a leading obstetrician-gynecologist in Tajikistan, the session broke the silence on cervical cancer. Participants discussed prevention, early detection, and the life-saving importance of regular screenings.
• Reliable Power for Clinics: We explored how solar energy ensures that local healthcare facilities stay operational during electricity outages, guaranteeing that essential medical services never stop.
By involving both women and men, this inclusive dialogue encourages families to take an active role in health and supports a more resilient healthcare system for Tajikistan.

12/03/2026

The Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan has received new equipment for the patrolling of protected areas. The handover took place on March 10 as part of the implementation of adaptation measures under the "Climate Risk Management in Central Asia" programme, implemented by GIZ on behalf of the German Government.

The SMART (Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool) system is being introduced in the transboundary zone of the Zeravshan River Basin to address several practical objectives: automating field data collection, increasing the transparency of patrol teams, and providing rapid analysis of threats such as poaching, illegal logging, and wildfires. New smartphones will allow inspectors at the Zarafshan National Park to track routes, log violations, and document wildlife encounters in real time. The kit includes mobile devices for field data collection and information processing systems, which will serve as the foundation for launching SMART patrolling nationwide.

The next stage is a series of training sessions for local foresters and rangers. The training will enable specialists on the ground to effectively use new digital tools adapted to Tajikistan’s national legislation to protect the region’s unique ecosystems in the face of climate change.

Tajikistan on the Global Stage: BIOFACH 2026 Nuremberg

Nuremberg recently hosted the world’s leading trade fair for organic products — BIOFACH 2026. As a premier global platform, the event brought together over 2,200 exhibitors and 35,000 visitors to showcase the latest innovations and trends in the organic products.

Within this global framework, representatives from NCC Biokishovarz presented the company’s organic potential, featuring Organic and FairTrade products such as cotton, mung beans, and dried mulberries. Their participation highlights Tajikistan’s commitment to sustainable production and international market integration, creating new avenues for direct business relationships with global buyers.

The fair provided a valuable space for high-level networking, resulting in over 20 individual business meetings. Key negotiations were held with major international companies, including Paul Reinhart AG and COTONEA, regarding the supply of 300 tons of organic cotton, as well as with Eurofins regarding laboratory testing, quality and sustainable standards. This success reinforces the "Made in Tajikistan" brand and contributes to opening significant export pathways for the country's organic products like cotton and legumes.

GIZ Tajikistan supported the initiative through its Action “Green Transition through the Cotton Value Chain in Tajikistan,” which is co-financed by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Together, we continue to promote a green transition and inclusive economic opportunities for Tajikistan on the international stage.

Moving from Traditional Farming to Evidence-Based Planning

As climate variability makes traditional farming increasingly unpredictable, we are bringing PICSA (Participatory Integrated Climate Services for Agriculture) directly to the farm level.

To support this shift, we recently held a specialized training in Khujand for more than 20 agronomists from across the Sughd Region. The goal: to bridge the gap between climate science and everyday farming decisions.

Now certified as PICSA facilitators, these agronomists are equipped to help farmers translate climate data and weather forecasts into practical, seasonal plans tailored to their own land. This shift toward data-driven planning enables farmers to better manage risks and build more resilient livelihoods.

The initiative is implemented under the GIZ Action “Green Transition through the Cotton Value Chain in Tajikistan”, co-financed by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The training was carried out in collaboration with NCC Biokishovarz and facilitated by experts from the University of Reading and IDEMS.

Together, we are driving innovation and strengthening climate resilience in Tajikistan.

Community-based activities of PREVECA-Project
Radicalization is influenced by many factors. Lack of purpose, lack of positive role models, grievances due to experience of social deprivation, discrimination, psychological problems, poverty, lack of education and many more play a role. Many youths in Tajikistan, especially but not only in rural areas, suffer from these challenges are therefore prone to risks of radicalization. The Preventing Violent Extremism in Central Asia Project (PREVECA), funded by the German Foreign Office, has extended its community-based activities. It is now working in Isfara and Istaravshan and surroundings with a focus on strengthening purpose, agency and giving opportunities to disadvantaged youth and their communities to actively engage in efforts to improve their immediate environment.

Two local partnering civil society organizations, PO Umed in Isfara and PO Zanon Ziddi Zurovari in Istaravshan, work in selected villages. Based on interactive needs assessments, small project ideas were identified and are being subsequently implemented with active involvement of the village community. Projects include the repair of a village assembly hall, equipment of school classrooms, renovation of sports grounds, the opening of a village culture club, instalment of new sanitary infrastructure in a school, new equipment for a school dining hall and the creation of a youth hub. These activities are flanked by discussion and sensitization events, excursions and trainings on risks of radicalization, media and information literacy and critical thinking.

International Green Week Berlin 2026: Tajikistan on the Global Stage

Berlin is once again hosting the world’s leading exhibition for agriculture, food production, and horticulture — International Green Week (IGW) 2026. This global platform brings together the latest innovations in farming, livestock technologies, and sustainable land management.

To represent the country's growing potential, a high-level Tajik delegation and textile entrepreneurs are participating in the event. Their presence highlights Tajikistan’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and green value chains. This participation also creates new opportunities for dialogue, international partnerships, and investment in the cotton and textile sectors.

The exhibition, which runs until 25 January 2026, serves as a valuable space for networking and expert forums. It allows the delegation to explore modern solutions for rural development and strengthen ties with global partners in the food and forestry industries.

GIZ Tajikistan supported this initiative through its Action “Green Transition through the Cotton Value Chain in Tajikistan,” co-financed by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Together with our partners, we continue to promote a green transition and sustainable economic opportunities for Tajikistan on the international stage.
