The Department of Tourism (DOT) launched a major forum, “From DOT to Destination,” to encourage tourism operators to adapt and build resilience, highlighting standards and models to drive Thailand towards sustainable tourism destinations.
On Tuesday, May 26, 2026, Mr. Chaturon Pakdivanich, Director-General of the Department of Tourism, presided over the opening of the seminar, “From DOT to Destination: Enabling High-Quality Tourism,” aiming to motivate tourism operators to adapt and build resilience, showcasing standards and models to drive Thailand towards sustainable tourism destinations. He also delivered a special lecture on "From Dot to Destination: Turning Small Points into Big Opportunities: A Vision for Developing High-Quality Tourism in Thailand." Approximately 200 tourism operators and personnel attended the event at the Infinity Ballroom 1-2, Pullman King Power Hotel, Bangkok.
The objective of this event was to provide a platform for exchanging knowledge, policy perspectives, and experiences from exemplary operators, thereby elevating the Thai tourism industry to “quality tourism” that creates a sustainable balance between the economy, society, environment, and the quality of life of the people in the area.
The event included lectures and discussions on the following topics:
- "Reviving Nature, Reviving Tourism: A Shared Responsibility"
- "Connecting Values to Destinations: How Gastronomy, Wellness, Green Hotels, and Sustainability Shape the Future of Thai Tourism"
- "Reviving Nature, Reviving Tourism: A Shared Responsibility"
- "From Experience to Impact: How Travel Stories Turn Places into Destinations"
- "Wellness x Sustainability for the Future of Thai Tourism"
- "Sustainability is no longer just an add-on, but the heart of the survival of the Thai tourism industry, divided into economic, community, and environmental sustainability."
The Director-General of the Department of Tourism stated that, "This event reflects the Department of Tourism's vision to be 'the agency driving tourism standards and services.'" "Towards balanced and sustainable growth" aims to transform Thailand from quantitative growth to value-based growth. This is achieved by encouraging Thai entrepreneurs and tourist destinations to upgrade their standards, build confidence, and meet the needs of modern, quality tourists who prioritize experience, well-being, sustainability, and reliable service standards. Today, 'sustainability' is not something to be done when ready, but must be done immediately. Tourism standards will be a crucial bridge helping Thai entrepreneurs elegantly elevate to the high-end tourist market, creating jobs, promoting well-being in society, and preserving natural resources sustainably.
This event is therefore not just a platform for knowledge exchange, but a significant milestone in integrating policies, standards, and inspiration from exemplary entrepreneurs into practical implementation in destinations. The goal is to create "DOT Excellence" nationwide, elevate the Thai tourism ecosystem to a resilient level, and establish Thailand as a steadfast and sustainable high-quality tourist destination that captivates travelers worldwide.
