Samut Songkhram Advances Its Creative City of Gastronomy Initiative, Strengthening Tourism, Local Identity, and Sustainability
5 August 2026
At the Mae Klong Meeting Room, 5th Floor, Samut Songkhram Provincial Hall, Mr. Chayachai Saeng-in, Governor of Samut Songkhram Province, chaired the 3/2026 Meeting of the Samut Songkhram Creative City of Gastronomy Steering Committee. Mr. Korakot Wongsuwan and Mr. Ranas Chai Phumcharoen, Deputy Governors of Samut Songkhram Province, also participated in the meeting, together with heads of government agencies and committee members from relevant organisations, to review progress and integrate the implementation of the various subcommittees.
The meeting reviewed several key areas of progress. In gastronomy tourism promotion, four additional tourism routes were proposed: a Street Food Route, an Occupational and Local Wisdom Route, a Floating Market and Orchard Route, and a Community Enterprise Connectivity Route. Promotional content will also be clearly categorised into markets, local ingredients, occupations, and local wisdom.
The province will continue to implement seven major activities, including the development of a trilingual e-Book featuring learning resources from 36 subdistricts, storytelling training, and a gastronomy tourism festival. Pilot festivals and promotional events include “Saneh Thai: Feel All The Feelings @ Samut ‘Song’ Khram,” “Mae Klong Guaranteed: Quality Products with Standards,” and “Amazing Amphawa.” The latter highlights The Lost Taste menus, including Khanom Jeen with Mackerel Curry and Grilled Pork, Kaeng Kung Non Hae, and Kaeng Khua Krathue with Grilled Fish.
In the area of Ingredients and Food Safety, the province is promoting local ingredients to meet GI and Organic standards, while developing traceability systems throughout the food supply chain to safeguard the health of both consumers and visitors.
Under Sustainability, priority is being given to the restoration of aquatic ecosystems, including canal dredging, the management of surplus food and food waste, and the promotion of stingless bee farming. Stingless bees serve as an important biological indicator of ecosystem cleanliness and also play a significant role in pollinating pomelo, coconut, and lychee orchards.
In the area of Learning and Innovation, the province is preparing to establish 36 food learning and innovation centres across Mueang Samut Songkhram, Amphawa, and Bang Khonthi districts. Key strategic initiatives include the development of a Gastronomy Knowledge Hub, capacity-building through the Young Gastronomy Ambassador programme, and the creation of a Gastronomy Innovation Lab.
These initiatives are intended to preserve, strengthen, and further develop the province’s culinary heritage and local wisdom, while transforming them into sustainable learning resources and supporting Samut Songkhram’s long-term ambition to become a Creative City of Gastronomy.
