June 9, 2026.The meeting of Fred J. Estes Post 9876 was called to order at 1306 hours on this date by Cmdr. Guarnuccio. A total of 26 members and 3 visitors/guests were present.
Guests were Past VFW Post 9876 Commander Marcus Earp, District 5 QuarterMaster Steven White, and Michael Pettis.
All Officer and Committee reports were presented and accepted by the Post.
Chaplain Warner undraped the Charter in honor of Herbert Schwieterman, who passed away on the 8th of May, then draped the Charter for Ernest Lee Cherry Jr, who passed away on the 25th of May. Chaplain Warner led the Post in Prayer for our departed Comrades.
Past VFW Post 9876 Cmdr. Marcus Earp installed Post Cmdr. Emanuel Guarnuccio for the 2026-2027 period and gave him the Obligation of Duty oath.
50/50- VFW Auxiliary raffle winner was Chuck Gorensen. 6,600 Baht was collected from the tickets and received 3,300 Baht. Chuck donated all 3,300 to the Auxiliary. Thank you for your donation, Chuck!
Closing ceremonies were held in accordance with the Manual of Procedures at 1445 hours.
After the meeting, members of both the Post and Auxiliary observed the 82nd Anniversary of D-Day, June 6, 1944.

The next monthly meeting will be at 13:00 hours on the 14th of July,2026 at the Post home.

Post 9876 Jr Vice Cmdr Danny Berry spent the past two days making "Buddy Checks" to Comrades Steve Shattuck at Pro Health Nursing Home in Pattaya and Bill Norris at his home in Chachoengsao. Both are in good spirits and have requested that more visitors stop by. Thanks to Comrade Berry for his service to fellow Veterans.

Today we commemorate the 82nd anniversary of D-Day. We honor the bravery and sacrifice of the Allied troops on the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944, a day that forever changed the course of history. May we never forget their courage and heroism.

May 30, 2026, at 3:00 PM. VFW Post 9876, Pattaya, Thailand, along with VFW Post 9876 Auxiliary and Wives Club, American Legion TH02, VFW Post 9951 Bangkok, and Family and Friends, paid their last respects to Mr. Ernest Lee Cherry Jr, Life member of VFW Post 9876 and the late husband of Mrs. Rasikhan Phongsri, a member of VFW Post 9876 Auxiliary. The cremation ceremony was held at Wat Chai Mongkhon Royal Monastery Pattaya Thailand. The VFW Post 9876 Honor Guard rendered military honors for the former U.S. Army combat veteran. "Til Valhalla!"

Another visit was paid by Comrade Danny Berry to Aubrey "Bill" Norris at his home in Chachoengsao. Bill, 93 years old, suffered a mild stroke several weeks ago and is slowly but steadily improving. Bill lives a good distance from other Americans that he knows, and the visits by Danny and engaging in casual conversation is helping him improve and sharpen his mental facilities. Great job to Danny for going the extra distance for his fellow Veterans in need.

VFW Post 9876 sadly announces the passing of Comrade Ernest Lee Cherry Jr, 96 years old, at Jomtien Hospital in Pattaya, Thailand on May 25th, 2026. During his military career, Ernest was a SSG and was retired as a Captain from the US Army. He served combat tours in both Korea and Vietnam and among his awards are the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Air Medal. Comrade Cherry was a VFW Life Member and is survived by his wife, Rasikha Phongsri, who is a member of the VFW Post 9876 Auxiliary.

Funeral service details are currently being arranged.

VFW Post 9876 Comrades Zachary Abbot and Danny Berry visited 2 Comrades in Distress, LM's Steve Shattuck and Aubrey "Bill" Norris. Zachary visited Steve, who has been recently transferred to a different facilility at Pro Health Nursing Home in Jomtien. Visitors for Steve are encouraged, as he has been under supervised care for quite some time. Danny Berry visited Bill at his home in Chonburi. Bill, 93 years old, has been recovering from a mild stroke he suffered a few weeks ago. Thank you VFW Members for your commitment to helping veterans and offering reassurance to those in need.
