President Jeff Mitchell MBE has made this school his charity from his 65th Birthday Tom Jones Event. The school is the Samut Sakhon Provincial Learning Centre for Children and Youth

Rotary Club Eastern Seaboard President Jeff Mitchell MBE held a charity 65th Birthday celebration at the Siam Bayshore Resort, where his friends Tom Canning, along with Jeff’s mother, arrived from the UK to celebrate this event.
Tom Canning is one of the UK's top Tom Jones Tribute acts and has performed all around the world for many different occasions. Since winning Stars in Their Eyes in 1990 with his performance as Neil Diamond

Well, all the sports gear and desks have arrived for the new school term.

I have been working on the School Project for the Children and Youth Learning Centre at Samut Sakhon almost every day this month, ordering and confirming the arrival of sports equipment raised by the Tom Jones event, and working closely with the school and with Lazada, Lotus, and now HomePro.

I am pleased to say that all the sports gear for the kindergarten has arrived, including some 50 footballs, 20 badminton bats, 5 nets, 15-odd volleyballs, 60 jump ropes, and lots more, at a total of some 21,000 THB.

We also purchased 10 sets of desks with 40 kindergarten chairs at 29,000 THB, and 40 Momento Multi-Purpose tables for students in grades 4–6, who all did their schoolwork on the floor.
Mission completed by our President, Jeff Mitchell MBE, of his 65th charity birthday celebration on the 27th of February 2026 at the Siam Bayshore Resort, where his friends Tom Canning, along with Jeff’s mother, arrived from the UK to celebrate this event.
Tom Canning is one of the UK's top Tom Jones Tribute acts and has performed worldwide for a wide range of occasions. Since winning Stars in Their Eyes in 1990 with his performance as Neil Diamond

The total of 100,000 THB was raised, and very big thanks to Tom Canning and John William Roberts for their kind donation, plus all our sponsors, members and friends of the Rotary Club Eastern Seaboard
Over 85,669.53 was spent on purchasing sports equipment, desks and chairs for some 400 children at the Children and Youth Learning Centre at Samut Sakhon

On Saturday, 23 May 2026, several Members of the Rotary Club Eastern Seaboard were pleased to attend the Rotary International District 3340 Awards event at the Wang-Pla Resort, Chanthaburi. The event was held to celebrate the achievements of our District Clubs over the past Rotary year (tends 30 June). Rotary International District 3340 includes all 65 Clubs in the whole Eastern half of Thailand and has now also been joined by the first two ever Rotary Clubs in Laos.

The host Club RC Chanthaburi made a wonderful occasion for around 400 guests, and following a Thai table buffet, the district awards were presented. RCES representative Members were pleased and honoured to be called to the stage by District 3340 Governor Khun Wiwat Srisomphong to receive 4 trophies:

Unite For Good award for Projects and Club activities throughout the last year (District 2nd runner-up). This award recognises, within our Club, particularly the wonderful project and fundraising activities over the last Rotary Year by PP Rodney Charman, Suree Phasuk, Joy Keolaphoumy, and the entire supporting Club team.

Unite For Good ‘District 3340 Outstanding Member’ award to Khun Chanida Vanijwongse (Ying) for her dedication and personal sacrifice to Rotary work in her voluntary teaching to children and prisoners throughout the last year, with the support of RCES.

Club membership retention and increase (District 3rd)

Congratulations to all RCES Members, partners and families, and thanks to all our supporters, we can’t do it without you!

Congratulations also to all the other Rotary District 3340 Award winners, another year of amazing Rotary Club achievements, and looking forward to the next!

Rotary Charity Bowling – Rotary Club Eastern Seaboard Ladies lead the way!

Many thanks to Rotary Club Plutaluang for hosting a fantastic charity ten-pin bowling event at SF Bowling Central Festival. District Governor Wiwat and Assistant Governor Termsak welcomed over 20 teams of 3, with RC Eastern Seaboard supporting the event, entering two teams.

After a few hours of fun bowling, enjoyment and socialising with Rotary Clubs from across the area.

An amazing result at the prize giving, Rotary Club Eastern Seaboard Member Khun Ava picking up the overall highest score ladies trophy, AG Steve’s wife Rose coming third, and RCES (Team 2) Rose, Manita, and Anne taking team fourth.

A great fun Rotary event which raised a significant sum for the provision of medical equipment in Chanthaburi. Thanks again to the RC Plutaluang organisers and congratulations to all the winners and participants.

It’s nice to see the younger members of Rotary supporting this charity event

In the afternoon, the children began the Songkran celebration by pouring scented water over the Buddha image, followed by fun water splashing activities. They had a wonderful time, and the ice cream was completely gone by the end.

Thank you to our club for the support in making this special event for the elderly and underprivileged children.

Thanks to Ying and the FOL Children Center for the invite to Ban Banglamung Social Welfare Development Center were the Children play games and dance and sing for these lovely older people. RCES donated 4,000 THB for Ice creams and snacks. We also donated to the Center 10, 000 THB toward their funds for old. It was a good chance for Ying and me to donate 50,000 THB sponsored by ESS development to the Fountain of Life children's center toward their new kitchen project. Lovely morning seeing the young and old enjoying Songkran traditions.

Ban Banglamung Center is home to 205 elderly residents, consisting of 90 men and 115 women. The residents are divided into 3 groups -A, B, and C. Group A includes the healthiest individuals, many of whom participated in the Songkran celebration.

The center is funded by the government with a budget of 60 baht per person per day. All residents are from the provinces in the eastern region of Thailand and live at the center free of charge.
Across Thailand, there are 7 such centers. Among them, only Kon Kaen Center provides day care services, while the others operate as residential facilities where the residents live full-time.

The elderly residents were very happy to celebrate Songkran with the children and teachers today. They expressed a heartfelt wish for us to return next year, as they often feel lonely. Being surrounded by the children brought them joy and made them feel lively and full of energy once more.
