The AUN-HPN Secretariat hosted a workshop on the Evaluation of Healthy University Rating System (HURS) 2026 for universities in Thailand University Network and interested universities.

On June 12, 2026, the AUN-HPN Secretariat organized a workshop on the Evaluation of the Healthy University Rating System (HURS) 2026. The workshop aimed to equip data recorders and relevant personnel with a thorough understanding of the evaluation criteria and to utilize the Healthy University Rating System (HURS) criteria as a framework for systematically advancing and developing the university in line with the Healthy University approach.

The workshop was chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thunwadee Suksaroj, Executive Director of AUN-HPN Secretariat and Director of ASEAN Institute for Health Development, Mahidol University.

The distinguished speaker lineup included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Piyapong Janmaimool, Deputy Executive Director of AUN-HPN Secretariat and Deputy Director for Strategy and International Relations at the ASEAN Institute for Health Development; Dr. Wiwat Rojanapithayakorn, M.D., Former Executive Director of AUN-HPN Secretariat; Asst. Prof. Dr. Supaporn Songpracha, a lecturer at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities and Division of Information Technology, Mahidol University; and Asst. Prof. Dr. Vijj Kasemsup, M.D., Director of To***co Control Research and Knowledge Management Center (TRC) and Instructor, Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital and representative from the Division of Information Technology, Mahidol University.

These experts served as instructors, sharing their knowledge and fostering a deeper understanding of health-promoting university approaches for 51 participants representing 19 universities across Thailand.

The workshop was conducted in a hybrid format, both onsite at the Krasae Chanawongse Room, 2nd floor Administration Building, ASEAN Institute for Health Development, Mahidol University, and online via Zoom platform.

The ASEAN University Network–Health Promotion Network Secretariat (AUN-HPN Secretariat) and the ASEAN Institute for Health Development, Mahidol University, extend their heartfelt congratulations to Professor Dr. Narin Hiransuthikul, former Vice President of Chulalongkorn University and Chairperson of the Thai University Network for Health Promotion Network (TUN-HPN) in 2023.

On the occasion of his appointment as Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the Higher Education Development Fund, as approved by the Cabinet upon nomination by the Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation.

This appointment is effective from 2 June 2026 onwards.

The AUN-HPN Secretariat organized the “HURS Workshop for Reviewers” for the assessment of Healthy Universities in 2026

On 25 May 2026, Mahidol University, through the ASEAN University Network – Health Promotion Network (AUN-HPN) Secretariat, led by the working group for the Healthy University Rating Systems (HURS), hosted a workshop for reviewers titled “Enhancing the Effectiveness of HURS Reviewers.” The event served as a platform for HURS reviewers to exchange insights, share lessons learned from past evaluations, and discuss preparations for the upcoming 2026 assessment. Associate Professor Dr. Piyapong Janmaimool, Deputy Director of Strategy and International Relations, ASEAN Institute for Health Development and Deputy Executive Director of the AUN-HPN was honored to welcome experts and auditors from 7 universities in 4 countries within the AUN-HPN network.

Together with a team of experts, the workshop featured prominent participants including Dr. Wiwat Rojanapitthayakorn, former Executive Director of the AUN-HPN; Assistant Professor Dr. Vijj Kasemsup, Head of the Department of Community Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital; Assistant Professor Dr. Supaporn Songpracha from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities; and officials from Mahidol University's Information Technology Division. The event was held in a hybrid format at the Krasae Chanawongse Meeting Room, ASEAN Institute for Health Development, and via an online meeting system.

The Healthy University Rating Systems (HURS) was developed under the Healthy University Framework (HUF) as a tool to evaluate the success of university health promotion initiatives. First launched in 2021, the HURS assessment system is currently utilized by numerous universities across more than eight ASEAN nations.

AUN-HPN Holds Collaborative Meeting with Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) to Strengthen Health Promotion Network in Malaysia.

On 21 May 2026, Mahidol University, through the ASEAN University Network – Health Promotion Network (AUN-HPN) Secretariat Office, held a collaborative meeting with Universiti Sains Malaysia to strengthen cooperation in advancing the health promotion network in Malaysia.

The meeting was honored by the presence of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nor Asniza Ishak, Deputy Director of Institutional Planning and Strategic Centre (IPSC), Universiti Sains Malaysia together with executives and staff members from Universiti Sains Malaysia. Participants engaged in knowledge exchange and discussions on the practical implementation of the Healthy University Rating System (HURS) within universities and across the network. In addition, discussions were held on approaches to strengthening and expanding the health promotion network in Malaysia.

Representing AUN-HPN, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thunwadee Suksaroj, Director of the ASEAN Institute for Health Development and Executive Director of AUN-HPN and Assoc. AUN-HPN Secretariat Collaborates with Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) to Organize HURS Workshop for Higher Education Network in Malaysia.

On 20 May 2026, the ASEAN University Network – Health Promotion Network (AUN-HPN) Secretariat, in collaboration with Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Malaysia, organized a Healthy University Rating System (HURS) Workshop under the theme “Advancing ASEAN Healthy Campuses through Healthy University Rating System (HURS).” The workshop aimed to enhance understanding of the HURS assessment criteria and to promote the development of health-promoting universities among the higher education institutions in Malaysia.

The workshop was honored by the presence of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nor Asniza Ishak Deputy Director of Institutional Planning and Strategic Centre (IPSC), Universiti Sains Malaysia; Prof. Piyamitr Sritara, President of Mahidol University; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thanapan Laiprakobsup Executive Director of ASEAN University Network who delivered the opening and welcome remarks.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thunwadee Suksaroj, Director of ASEAN Institute for Health Development and Executive Director of AUN-HPN, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Piyapong Janmaimool, Deputy Director for Strategy and International Relations at the ASEAN Institute for Health Development and Deputy Executive Director of AUN-HPN, served as keynote speakers. They shared knowledge and experiences on applying HURS criteria to systematically drive healthy university initiatives with 30 participants from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and 30 participants from 3 universities joined online.

In addition, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fariza Khalid Deputy Executive Director (Excellence and Recognition), UKM Strategy Centre Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) delivered a session on “Sharing Best Practices from a Top-Star Healthy University in Healthy University Rating System (HURS)”

On 18 May 2026, the ASEAN University Network – Health Promotion Network (AUN-HPN) Secretariat, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thunwadee Suksaroj, Director of the ASEAN Institute for Health Development, Mahidol University, and Executive Director of the AUN-HPN Secretariat, together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Piyapong Janmaimool, Deputy Director for Strategy and International Relations, ASEAN Institute for Health Development, and Deputy Executive Director of the AUN-HPN Secretariat, held a preparatory meeting with representatives from Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya, Indonesia. The delegation was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sri Widati, Head of the Airlangga Health Promotion Center (AHPC), to prepare for the 11th International Advisory Committee Meeting, which is scheduled to be held alongside an international conference on health promotion.

The conference is jointly organized by Universitas Airlangga and the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE), South West Pacific Region, under the theme: “One Health–Based University Health Promotion Strategies for Improving Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors on Campuses”, and will take place from 14–16 October 2026.

The preparatory meeting focused on key operational matters, including agenda setting, facilitation arrangements, budget planning, and overall event coordination, to support the effective implementation of The 11th International Advisory Committee Meeting and the international conference, ensuring the successful achievement of the established objectives.

Sekretariat AUN-HPN Menggelar Pertemuan Persiapan dengan Universitas Airlangga, Indonesia, Menjelang Pertemuan Komite Penasihat Internasional ke-11

Pada tanggal 18 Mei 2026, Sekretariat Jaringan Universitas ASEAN untuk Promosi Kesehatan (AUN-HPN), yang dipimpin oleh Dr. Thunwadee Suksaroj, Direktur AIHD-MU merangkap Direktur Eksekutif Sekretariat AUN-HPN; bersama Dr. Piyapong Janmaimool, Deputi Direktur Strategi dan Hubungan Internasional, AIHD-MU merangkap Deputi Direktur Eksekutif Sekretariat AUN-HPN, mengadakan pertemuan persiapan dengan perwakilan dari Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya, Indonesia. The Secretariat Office of the ASEAN University Network–Health Promotion Network (AUN-HPN) Participates in the “Co-design for a Stigma-Free Smoke-Free Campus Ecosystem” Forum

On 15 May 2026, the Secretariat Office of the ASEAN University Network–Health Promotion Network (AUN-HPN) participated in the forum entitled “Co-design for a Stigma-Free Smoke-Free Campus Ecosystem: From Good Practice to SOP.” The opening remarks were delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Ittichote Chuckpaiwong, Vice President for Infrastructure and Environment, Mahidol University.

The event was also honored by the presence of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arisara Leksansern, Associate Dean for Strategy and Quality Development, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Mahidol University, together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Piyapong Janmaimool, Deputy Director for Strategy and International Relations, ASEAN Institute for Health Development and Deputy Executive Director of AUN-HPN, who delivered welcoming remarks to participants.

This meeting was organized through collaboration among researchers and representatives from 12 partner universities under the project entitled “Development of Health Support Systems for Students and Personnel Based on the Health Promoting University Approach, with a Focus on Controlling the Use of E-cigarettes and To***co Products.” The project is led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Darunee Phukao, lecturer at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Mahidol University, and is supported by funding from the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth). The project aims to develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for controlling the use of e-cigarettes and to***co products in higher education institutions, which can be adapted to suit the context of each university in Thailand.
The meeting also featured a Co-design session that provided a platform for universities to jointly reflect, exchange perspectives, and collaboratively design approaches toward creating a “Stigma-Free Smoke-Free University.” The session was attended by executives and representatives from partner universities, as well as representatives from ThaiHealth Bureau 8. The Co-design process emphasized uncovering “hidden innovations” or practical experiences from frontline practitioners, with the goal of further developing effective control systems for e-cigarette and to***co product use that are genuinely suited to the contexts of individual higher education institutions.

Key activities during the meeting included:
* Presentation of the Stigma-Free Smoke-Free University Ecosystem
* Exchange of innovative practices and tools among participating organizations
* Joint synthesis and discussion to design systems for care, prevention, and supportive health-promoting environments
* Gap analysis of current systems
* Collaborative design of a preliminary SOP framework to support adaptable implementation across universities in Thailand

AUN-HPN Holds Collaborative Meeting with Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) to Strengthen Health Promotion Network in Brunei Darussalam

On 7 May 2026, Mahidol University, through the ASEAN University Network – Health Promotion Network (AUN-HPN) Secretariat Office, held a collaborative meeting with Universiti Brunei Darussalam to strengthen cooperation in advancing the health promotion network in Brunei Darussalam.

The meeting was honored by the presence of Dr. Anni Nik Anni Afiqah binti Haji Mohammad Tuah, Deputy Chair of the UBD Healthy University Working Group, together with more than 20 executives and staff members from Universiti Brunei Darussalam. Participants engaged in knowledge exchange and discussions on the practical implementation of the Healthy University Rating System (HURS) within universities and across the network.

Representing AUN-HPN were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thunwadee Suksaroj, Director of the ASEAN Institute for Health Development and Executive Director of AUN-HPN; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Piyapong Janmaimool, Deputy Director for Strategy and International Relations at the ASEAN Institute for Health Development and Deputy Executive Director of AUN-HPN; and Ms. Atchawadee Wirunpet, Head of Programmes and Planning of the ASEAN University Network Secretariat. The delegation also participated in a study visit on health promotion initiatives at Universiti Brunei Darussalam.
In the afternoon, the delegation was graciously welcomed by Dr. HaZri Haji Kifle, Vice-Chancellor and President of Universiti Brunei Darussalam. The meeting further explored concrete strategies for advancing universities toward becoming healthy universities in a sustainable and practical manner.
