On 10 February 2026, HFA-BCMF visited Thasongyang Hospital Maela Branch in Mae La Refugee Camp, Tha Song Yang District, Tak Province, Thailand to deliver a phototherapy machine to the hospital in the camp generously donated by Betula Asian Aid Foundation. As the hospital in the refugee camp only had 1 fully functioning phototherapy machine serving 40 babies with jaundice in a month, they frequently had to refer cases to Tha Song Yang Hospital for phototherapy, which was costly for the parents.

“With the additional phototherapy machine, we estimate that at least 100 children will benefit over the next six months. This will allow us to treat babies earlier, reduce the length of hospital stays, and prevent serious complications,” said Sha, a special care baby unit medic from the hospital in the camp.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thank you to Betula Asian Aid Foundation for their generous donation. Since cuts in aid from the USA at the end of January 2025, and the withdrawal of the International Rescue Committee supporting the hospital in the camp, medics have only been able to continue to provide much needed care through donations.

Thank you, Austin!

Meet Austin, our newest volunteer at HFA-BCMF, who has joined us all the way from New York, USA. During his gap year before beginning his neuroscience studies at Vanderbilt University, Austin has been supporting our team by interviewing patients, editing stories, and assisting with day-to-day workload across programs.

Before arriving, Austin set himself a fundraising goal of USD $3,000 to support our work. He not only reached that target but exceeded it, raising a total of USD $5,400 through crowdfunding.

These funds are being directed toward our patient transport services, supporting patients and their caregivers travelling on the BCMF Patient Van to Chiang Mai and Bangkok to access further medical treatment.

At HFA-BCMF, we know that accessing surgery is often costly and logistically challenging. Our BCMF Patient Van services operate around surgery schedules, transporting patients and their caregivers to our patient houses, where they stay while awaiting hospital admission or appointments. This service is essential in ensuring patients can reach life-saving care when they need it.
