Blessed Homes

Blessed Homes works along the Thai-Myanmar border to provide safe and loving homes for children and youth in need.

We want to see children who have a hope for the future and courage to act on their dreams. Høsten 2006 reiste Ole-Jørgen Edna til Thailand for å jobbe som lærer ved en bibelskole i grenseområdene Thailand og Burma. Etter et halvt år på grensa ble han og et Karen ektepar bedt om å ta til seg tre foreldreløse søsken som nylig hadde flyktet fra Burma. Dette takket de ja til og samtidig som de tre søsknene flyttet inn begynte planene for det første barnehjemmet å ta form. Tre måneder senere var familien økt til 21 barn og på høsten samme år stod det første barnehjemmet ferdig og ble kalt ”Ba Saw Gre Hi Doe” av de lokale eller kanskje bedre kjent som ”Blessed Homes.”

”Blessed Homes” ble i juli 2008 etablert som en veldedig organisasjon i Norge for å drive og utvikle dette arbeidet videre.

“Blessed Homes” er en kristen organisasjon som ønsker å vise Guds kjærlighet til de vi møter. Vårt hovedfokus er å hjelpe barn og unge som er rammet av den pågående konflikten i Burma. Vi samarbeider med kirker og andre organisasjoner i lokalområdene og i Norge for å gjøre en best mulig jobb.

In Autumn 2006, Ole-Jørgen Edna came to Thailand to work as a teacher at a Bible school along the border with Burma. Six months into his stay, he and the Karen couple he was living with were asked to take in three orphaned siblings who had recently fled from Burma. They agreed and soon after, plans for the first orphanage began to take shape. Three months later, the family increased to 21 children. By the next autumn, one year after Ole-Jørgen came to the school, the first buildings were finished. The home was called “Ba Saw Gre Hi Doe” by the local people – better known as “Blessed Homes.”

In July 2008, the organization was established as a Norwegian charity. Blessed Homes is a Christian organization that desires to show God’s love to those we meet. Our main focus is to help children and young people affected by the ongoing conflict in Burma. We partner with churches, local organizations, and the international community to best meet the needs of the children and young adults in our care.

Meet our staff!

Say Bloh Wah is the Head Staff member at our Youth Center in Mae Sot—a role she has faithfully held since 2018 as she enters her 9th year with our foundation! She lives on-site with her family, including her husband, two children, and her nephew, whom she has raised since he was young.

As Head Staff, Say Bloh Wah leads a team of four, overseeing the center’s daily activities and ensuring both staff and youth have what they need. From managing on-site dynamics and guiding her team to provide support for our youth and young adults, her steady leadership keeps the Youth Center running smoothly and safely every day.

To get to know Say Bloh Wah better, we asked her a few questions:

What are your work responsibilities?
“My responsibilities at work is to help meet the needs of youths and the staff.”

What do you like about your job?
“I like my job because I enjoy helping people, especially my own Karen people.”

What is your favourite food?
”My favorite food is Karen food - fish paste and fried leaves.”

Some are mothers to their own children, but all of them act as mother figures to the children and youth in our care, providing them with love, guidance, and support. Thank you for all you do!

Meet our staff!

Mary’s history with us goes back to the very beginning—she was actually one of the visionary people who started our home in Mae Ook Hu 18 years ago! Since day one, she has been a faithful, hardworking leader on-site.

It is with good reason that she is affectionately known as "Moe Mae" (“Mom” in the Karen language) among our children and youth. Her love for others and her commitment to never give up on anyone are remarkable. Today, Mary continues her work alongside her husband, and they live at the home together with their daughter. She has also raised her late sister's son since he was 3 (pictured alongside Mary, her husband and daughter). We are so grateful for her 18 years of dedication!

We asked Mary a few questions about her daily life and the dream behind her work:

What are your main work responsibilities?
"My responsibilities include taking care of the children, handling the accounting, shopping, and meeting with the team to coordinate plans. I prepare for every situation at the home, lead worship, cook, organize Saturday activities and games, work closely with church members, and help the children with their homework."

What do you like most about your job?
"I love my job because it is so valuable. We live like one big family, supporting each other in a loving and caring home. I enjoy building hope, sharing love, encouraging others, and helping the children grow both physically and emotionally. It makes me so happy to see them learn to read and write, get good jobs, and eventually support their own families.

I am proud to help children who truly need support. When I was a child, I went through many difficult experiences myself. Because of that, I dreamed that one day I would help children who needed love and care. I thank God for choosing me to do this work for His glory. I truly love what I do, and I am so grateful that my childhood dream has come true!"

What is your favorite food?
"Hotpot!"

Meet our staff!

Yako is our steadfast and solid Head Staff member at our home in Noh Bo.

His dedication to Blessed Homes is impressive—he has been with us since 2011, and for the past 6 years, he has served alongside his wife, Jenny. Yako is a great role model and an incredible example for all the children and youth living at the home.

We asked Yako a few questions about his responsibilities and his daily life:

What are your main responsibilities at the home?
"My responsibilities include ensuring the safety of the children, providing them with an education, taking care of their health, and providing nutritious meals. I also supervise the children’s daily activities to create a safe and warm environment."

What do you like most about your job?
"My favorite thing about my job is seeing the smiling and happy faces of the children. That is my biggest joy and my biggest energizer!"

What is your favorite food?
"Beans and fish."

Fun fact about Yako:
His heart for the vulnerable extends beyond our home—he has actually been caring for a motherless monkey for a few years now! 😄

Yako's commitment, his passion for others, and his leadership make a lasting impact every single day. We are so grateful to have him leading our team in Noh Bo and shaping the futures of our children and youth!

Meet our staff!

At each of our locations, we have a "head staff" member who forms part of our core leadership team. Today, we want to shine a spotlight on Jae.

Jae is a proud mother of two, and for the past 9 years, she has been a stable and loving presence at our Klee Tho Kloo home, working alongside her husband, Nay Balute. Over the last year, Jae stepped into the role of Head Staff at the home, overseeing the entire location and leading our team of full-time staff on-site.

To help you get to know her better, we asked Jae a few quick questions about her life and work:

What are your main work responsibilities?
"I oversee both the spiritual and physical healthcare of everyone in the home."

What do you like most about your job?
"I love to cook for the community!"

What is your favorite food?
"Thai Papaya Salad (Som Tum)!"

Jae is a strong, dedicated, and compassionate leader. We are incredibly lucky to have her heading our team at Klee Tho Kloo, and caring for our children and youth every single day!

Every month, our head staff from each location travel to our main office in Mae Sot to meet with our administrative staff.

Back at their respective homes, these head staff are the key leaders on the ground. Together with their local colleagues, they handle the daily responsibilities of running each location.

Our monthly head staff gatherings in Mae Sot give our leaders a safe, dedicated space to step back, share updates about life at the homes, and navigate challenges together. They then take these new insights, goals, and future plans back to their teams at each of their locations —ensuring we all move forward as one connected family.

We are so grateful for this network of dedicated leaders who are working to create good workplaces for their colleagues and who are continuously working to improve the care for our children and youth in our foundation.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve heard the sounds of heavy artillery from the other side of the border here in Mae Sot. While we are safe on the Thai side, it serves as a reminder that the conflict in Myanmar is still very much active. It also shows the continuous need for safe and stable homes for the children and youth in our area.
