Fight Drugs with Books, Toys & Skateboards!

NEW TIMINGS as of January 2020 : Saturdays from 10-12 pm. Shaan & Jeevan are two boys who moved to Langsod village in January 2017. They live on a eco-farm in the village (called @Shaan & Jeevan’s Eco-Farm) and enrolled, in May 2017, in the local village school like all other Thai village kids. Quickly, Shaan and Jeevan became aware that their school friends did not have the same advantages and toys as they had. Their friends had no toys to play with and were often only entertained by smartphones. There were no kids friendly activities in the village and the kids were many a time very bored. And drugs lured very closely, as an easy remedy against boredom and under-stimulation.

So in September 2017, upon the boys’ request, Aruna and Chai, their parents, decided to act.

Thanks to the help of one of the most famous Thai childrens book author and illustrator, Cheewan Wisasa, who donated 25 of his books, Aruna and Chai were able to start a Kids Book Club in the village. The slogan was “Books against Drugs and Boredom”!

Every Saturday, during 1 hour, Aruna and Chai read Thai and English childrens’ books to Shaan and Jeevan’s school friends. A true delight for everybody. Then suddenly, in December 2017, many tourists stared donating toys and board games to the kids. It became so popular amongst the village kids that Aruna and Chai decided to extent the timing from 1 hour to 2 hours per week. It was literally impossible to get the kids to leave as they were so mesmerised by the toys.
