Bangkok Community Help Foundation

Both long time Thailand residents and Entrepreneurs soon got heavily involved in the Klong Toey lower-income Communities (called Slum communities as well).

Bangkok Community Help Foundation is a volunteer-driven nonprofit dedicated to supporting vulnerable communities through food relief, education, housing, and job training—empowering individuals to rebuild their lives with dignity and hope. Bangkok Community Help is a community initiative founded by Greg Lange (Owner of Sunrise Tacos & Margarita Storm) and Friso Poldervaart (Serial Entrepreneur and owner of Dinner in the Sky Thailand) during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic that struck at the start of 2020. They were approached by a few members of the Klong Toei community asking to use the kitchen of his restaurant to prepare hot meals for the hunger-stricken people living in the slum areas. As they and their team started to visit the slums they became aware of many other issues that the community were facing which included dirty garbage sites infested by rats, dilapidated houses, lack of food, basic sanitation facilities among many others. The deeply committed volunteers began to work on various re-painting, cleaning, renovation, and construction projects for the betterment of the community. Upon seeing and getting inspired by this group’s work, many local and expat volunteers started to join hands with them and that’s when Bangkok Community Help was formed. Since then the Foundation grew to a 500 volunteer strong team of like-minded individuals from all over the world, sharing the love for Thailand, and sharing the feeling of wanting to help one another when they can. The Bangkok Community Help Foundation has reached far beyond only Klong Toey. Wherever help is needed, the Foundation offers help regardless of their location, social status or heritage. Since April 2020 the Bangkok Community Help Foundation has distributed the following necessary items:

Distributed 1,000,000 KG of rice. Distributed 1,300,000 packets of instant noodles
Distributed 600,000 hot meals
Distributed 840,000 cans of fish
Distributed 650,000 face masks
Distributed 210,000 liters of cooking oil
Distributed 210,000 bottles of shampoo and bars of soap
Distributed 210,000 bottles of alcohol gel. Performed over 20,000 free ATK tests to different communities around Bangkok
Administered over 5,000 liters of oxygen to Covid patients. Distributed over 10,000 strips of paracetamol and other necessary medicine.
100,000 KG’s of 2nd hand clothes. Besides distribution of items, the Foundation has build houses for individual families. Helped individual kids with tutoring fees, school uniforms, computers and learning materials. Hosting weekly classes for underprivileged kids run by our all-star team of international teachers. Host basketball sessions with NBA accredited instructors and much more. The Foundation has worked together with companies ranging from Unilever, P&G, Mazars, MedConsult to smaller enterprises either donating funds or products. Embassies such as the Embassy of the United States and the Embassy of Australia. International schools such as St. Andrews International School and D-Prep International School. Bangkok Community Help Foundation has been covered by every major news outlet across the globe, including: CNN, BBC, CNBC, Thai Channel 3, ZDF, TVFrance, The Thaiger, Foreign Correspondence Club Thailand and more. 🎓 Scholarships for the Future!

These children may come from difficult backgrounds, but their dreams are just as big as anyone else’s. They want to become teachers, doctors and professionals — and they are working hard for their future.

Without a scholarship, these 20 children were at risk of dropping out of school. Together with the Santisuk Foundation, we’ve helped make sure they can continue their education.

The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy to very heavy rain across 51 provinces this Friday, including Bangkok and surrounding areas.

⛈️ Bangkok and its vicinity are expected to experience thunderstorms covering around 80% of the area, with heavy to very heavy rain possible in some locations. Flash floods and runoff may occur, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

Heavy rain is also forecast across the North, Northeast, Central, East and parts of the South. The East may see waves of 2–3 metres, while small boats in the upper Gulf of Thailand are advised to remain ashore until 27 September.

⚠️ Please stay alert, monitor official weather updates and avoid flooded roads and areas at risk of flash floods, landslides and runoff.

The Bangkok Community Help Foundation AI Learning Center is bringing AI education to Khlong Toey’s lower-income communities for the first time, creating access to skills and opportunities that are often out of reach for disadvantaged communities.

The first AI 101 classes are now being hosted, introducing AI to people in the community and exploring its benefits, potential dangers, and the first steps toward understanding its possibilities. The goal is not simply to teach people how to use AI, but to empower the community to understand, question, and confidently use this technology in their everyday lives.

By giving children, young people, and adults access to AI knowledge, we are helping build digital confidence, open pathways to education and employment, support entrepreneurship, and prepare the community for a rapidly changing future. This is about making sure the people of Khlong Toey are not left behind by the AI revolution, but are given the knowledge and opportunity to be part of it.

We’re proud to host our first-ever AI 101 Basic Class for people from lower-income communities at the Bangkok Community Help Foundation AI Learning Center.

From using AI in daily life, work and study to building resumes and preparing for job interviews — we’re opening the door to creativity and new possibilities. 💙

We also focus on staying safe: recognizing fake photos and voices, spotting impersonation, and protecting yourself from scams.

AI 101 will be hosted every week, with new curriculums and practical workshops developed from the program to help our community continue learning and exploring what AI can do.

At Bangkok Community Help Foundation, we are incredibly grateful to the students of The American School of Bangkok – Green Valley for turning a fun school challenge into meaningful support for families affected by the Klong Toey fire. 
Through their “Stick the Teacher to the Wall” challenge, students purchased tape and worked together to raise an amazing 6,330 THB. They then put all that tape to good use — successfully sticking their Elementary Principal, Ms. Annabel, to the wall! 😄 
Most importantly, the students learned that teamwork, creativity and a little bit of fun can make a real difference in the wider community. 
The 6,330 THB donation has now been transferred to Bangkok Community Help Foundation and will help support families who lost their homes, belongings and livelihoods in the Klong Toey fire.
A huge THANK YOU to all the students, teachers and families at ASB Green Valley for your generosity and for showing that even a school activity can create a positive impact. 🙏💙

Billy’s journey to Thailand wasn’t about a holiday. It was about trying to escape a life that had become too difficult.

After losing his job and the accommodation that came with it in the UK, Billy found himself at a crossroads. He had been homeless in Ireland before and knew what returning to the Irish homeless system would mean. With the money he had saved, he chose to travel as far away as he could — to Thailand — hoping for a fresh start.

But as his savings disappeared, Billy found himself homeless again, this time thousands of kilometres from home and struggling with his mental health.

When we met Billy, we began working with his family and the Irish Embassy to see what support could be arranged. Unfortunately, despite everyone’s efforts, no practical help could be provided from either side.

That’s when Pete from The Thairish Times stepped in.

Pete interviewed Billy for his YouTube channel, and something changed. Billy’s story reached people who wanted to help. The support came pouring in. ❤️

With donations from Pete’s subscribers and the wider community, Bangkok Community Help Foundation took custody of the funds and provided Billy with accommodation at the Center of Dreams, while we worked towards getting him safely back to Ireland.

Today, Billy is home. 🇮🇪❤️

His journey isn’t over, but he has been given another chance to rebuild his life.

Asking for help isn’t losing your pride. Sometimes, it’s the first step towards finding your way back.
