Thailand’s Ministry of Transport has officially launched an inaugural freight train trial along the strategic Laem Chabang Port–Nong Khai corridor, unlocking state rail infrastructure to private sector operators under a new open-access framework.
The initiative aims to slash national logistics costs—projected to drop by 10 per cent with diesel locomotives and up to 30 per cent under future electric systems—while streamlining cross-border trade into southern China via Lao PDR.
With major double-track network expansions underway, Thailand is positioning its railway network as the main freight spine of South-East Asia.

Kaeng I Khiao officially opened at Buntharik-Yot Mon Wildlife Sanctuary in Ubon Ratchathani on September 18, 2026, as a new ecotourism destination intended to support conservation and local livelihoods.

Surrounded by rich forest, the year-round stream and broad rock terrace offer recreation and ecosystem learning, while visitor services, round-the-clock safety coverage, access rules and an assessment of ecological carrying capacity aim to protect wildlife habitats.

Authorities are also strengthening safety, facilities, environmental and waste management to promote balanced, sustainable tourism and generate tangible income for nearby shops, communities and local tourism services.

More than 100 former wild-berry pickers in Sweden gathered at the Khon Kaen prosecutor’s office hoping for good news, yet none arrived. Although the court ordered the former broker to pay damages of over 17 million baht for tricking them into picking wild berries, the broker — who is the defendant — denied the charges. The court has scheduled another evidentiary hearing in September.

The former wild-berry pickers insisted, “We will fight until we are exhausted. We will fight until we win, to set an example so these people will not do this to other workers again.”

Lucky Air to Launch Kunming–Udon Thani Flights on September 8

Chinese low-cost carrier Lucky Air will operate direct charter flights between Kunming and Udon Thani twice a week from September 8 to October 22, the government said on Friday.

The airline will use a 189-seat Boeing 737-800, with flights every Tuesday and Thursday. The route is expected to support tourism and business in the upper Northeast.

Lucky Air will receive a 50% discount on landing and aircraft parking fees for one year. Udon Thani airport is expected to receive its public aerodrome operating certificate on September 2.

Saraburi’s four-level high-speed rail station is 29.30% complete and is planned as a key link between central Thailand and the Northeast.

Plans for Saraburi high-speed rail station have been unveiled as construction continues on the first phase of the Thai–Chinese high-speed rail project between Bangkok and Nakhon Ratchasima.

The 250.77-kilometre route has reached 55.978% overall construction progress. The Transport Ministry is accelerating work with the aim of completing the project and opening services in 2031.

Phattrapong Phattraprasit, deputy transport minister, updated the public on the development of regional airports, saying the ministry continues to advance its “Airport for Regional Development” policy to bring safety and facilities up to international standards and support growth in international economic activity.

In the latest development, Udon Thani Airport is preparing to formally receive a Public Aerodrome Operating Certificate from the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) on Wednesday (September 2, 2026).

“Udon Thani will be the sixth airport under the Department of Airports to receive this certificate, after Betong, Buri Ram, Surat Thani, Phitsanulok and Krabi. The certificate serves as confirmation of international safety standards,” Phattrapong said.

Government Congratulates Nene Royal on Reaching AGT Final

The government has congratulated 16-year-old Thai singer and guitarist Nene Royal after she received the Golden Buzzer and advanced directly to the America’s Got Talent Season 21 final.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul praised the Phuket native, whose real name is Rattikan Amlai, for bringing recognition to Thailand. Mel B awarded her the Golden Buzzer for her performance of “Black Hole Sun” during the live quarterfinals.

Nene’s stage costume combined rock fashion with Thai textiles, including handwoven fabric from Nong Bua Lamphu (ผ้าดุจดาว) and rare mudmee silk from Manchakhiri district in Khon Kaen (ผ้าไหมมัดหมี่). Traditional Thai accessories were redesigned to allow her to move freely while playing guitar.

The government urged Thais to support Nene in the finale on Sept. 22. The winner is due to be announced on Sept. 23, US time.

Asia’s high-speed rail race is gathering pace, with China, Japan and Southeast Asia driving major investment in faster, more connected transport networks.

Thailand is pushing ahead with the Bangkok–Nakhon Ratchasima high-speed rail line, even as construction remains behind schedule and officials work to resolve an overlapping section linked to the three-airport rail project by the end of 2026.

The 250.77-kilometre route is targeted to open in 2031, while work continues on key contracts including the Saraburi–Kaeng Khoi section and Saraburi high-speed rail station.
