2025 is a new chapter for the SCF team. We are going to focus more on environmental issues. As now we all are facing the consequences of Global Warming and Climate Change (CC) at all levels, global, natioanl and local.
Globally, the long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns cause intense droughts, water scarcity, severe fires, rising sea levels, flooding, melting polar ice, catastrophic storms and declining biodiversity.
In Thailand, the CC reflects on rising temperatures, more frequent and severe floods from increased rainfalls each year, and harsher droughts which generally affecting all sectors from tourism to public health and national resource management.
And it was found that 12 million farmers, or 1 in 6 of the Thai population, are the hardest-hit. They are dealing with increasing difficulties due to various risks. Paddy rice may suffer from flooding during the rainy season, while upland rice may face heat stress during harvest. The increased temperatures can lead to the death of fish, crabs, and other seafood. Livestock’s health, growth, and breeding are also impacted under the hotter temperatures. It was shown that there was a shortage of eggs supply after the big flood in northern Thailand during August - November,2024.
We prepared for the missions by joining a workshop entitled "Enhancing network Capacity in Accessing to Climate Change Fund" through a video conference on application Zoom Cloud Meetings on 9 Jan, 2025.
We hope to create positive changes through working together with vulnerable communities to cope up with the CC on food security, sustainable management of water and forest. These will lead to self reliance communities and sustainable development. Knowing there will be many challenges ahead, but we will try our best !
